BRDTTA annual championships drew a good crowd and some highly competitive table tennis was seen by all. Notably Ben Bennett reached the mens final by defeating the much fancied Sam Henderson in the semi final. In the final he meet reigning champion Sasha Grokhotov and a titanic battle ensued. The match went to the fifth end where Grokhotov seemed to gain the upper hand calling on all his experience but Bennett went for broke with some scintillating play to down his opponent. Well done both for an epic final!
The ladies singles was contested on a round robin basis with Georgina Credland and Margret Buxton both on two wins. Margret and Georgina faced off to decide the winner and although Georgina won the first first set, Margret dug deep and won the next three tight sets to claim the title. Well done both.
The Veteran singles pitted Mark Fiddian against Gary Jackson. Fiddian came out on top but had to work hard to overcome his dogged opponent who showed fantastic control to take it to the fifth end but Fiddian changed tack and started firing in powerful loops that proved to much for Jackson. A terrific final played in great spirit.
Handicap singles were contested by Daniel Cox ( +15 ) and Michael Credland ( +6 ) A brilliant handicap saw the young Daniel Cox pip the awkward and experienced Credland 31-29.
