Tsaptsinos into main draw in Spain

Maria Tsaptsinos will face 26th seed Paulina Vega at the Spanish Open after topping her group with three wins out of three to take her place in the main draw.

The Reading athlete had won her first two matches on Wednesday and today completed a clean sweep in her group matches by defeating Monika Urikova of Slovakia 3-0. She will face Chilean Vega, the world No 112, in the last 64 at 10.45am UK time on Friday.

Emily Bolton was beaten in her final group match, but she is into the main draw of the Under-21s as group runner-up. She plays top seed Lisa Lung of Belgium, who is ranked No 8 in the world at that age group, at 8.30am UK time on Friday.

Sam Walker, sixth seed in the Men’s Singles, has been drawn against Birdie Boro of India in the last 64, at 11.40am UK time on Friday.

In the Women’s Doubles, Bolton & Tsaptsinos went out in the first preliminary round against a pair from Chinese Taipei.
