Fantastic hat-trick from John Poysden

In division 1(A) the leaders Maldon A produced a storming performance - in fact what is arguably the performance of the Season  as they thrashed second placed Chelmsford A 9-1. Alex Abbott and John Poysden were both undefeated against a strong Chelmsford side who were without Ugur Saglik but were still able to field Casey Cross, Wale Bada and Eddy Ogbebor. John Poysden was unstoppable. He beat Eddy Ogebor (11-3, 11-6, 11-6) and then Casey Cross (11-5, 11-4, 11-6). Poysden went onto complete a truly stunning hat-trick with a 12-10, 11-9, 12-10 win over Wale Bada. It was Wale Bada who scored Chelmsford’s sole win - a marathon 13-11, 21-23, 8-11, 11-7, 11-9 victory over Trevor Lloyd. OCs A ran out 6-4 winners over Writtle A. Lee McHugh dominated proceedings with a very good hat-trick of wins which included a top-draw 11-8, 13-11, 9-11, 10-12,13-11 victory over Paul Lucas.

Galleywood A stay top in division 1(B). With James Hicks leading the way they beat Hatfield Peverel A 8-2. Julie Johnson made her mark with a hard-fought 2-11, 12-10, 8-11, 12-10, 11-6 win over Steve Kerns but she met her match in the free-flowing Gary Brignall who in  turn beat her 11-9, 11-8, 11-6. Chelmsford B led by an undefeated Simon Jarvis ran out 7-3 winners over Writtle B. Lin Roff impressed here for the losers. She scored a fine 11-4, 12-10, 8-11, 8-11, 11-3 win over Wu Dong Liu. Liberal are second in this division and they had Adam Buxton to thank as they beat Danbury B 8-2. Robin Armstrong won twice and this included a fine 11-7, 11-6, 13-11 win over Ian Whiteside. 

Division two produced three clear-cut sets of winners this week. Danbury D (Sam Lowman, George Ashley and Dan Anderson) beat Hatfield Peverel B 9-1. Dan Anderson excelled here racing to three 3-0 wins. He beat Neil Freeman (11-5, 11-6, 11-7), Guy McKenzie (11-7, 11-3, 11-6) and Dave Fiddeman (11-3, 11-7, 11-5). Chelmsford C were even more dominant. Mike Johnston, Wiktor Delimat and Waseem Qureshi ran out 10-0 winners against OCs C. Maldon B (with Ciaran Whelan and Colin Napper both winning their three singles) beat Maldon C 7-3. Colin Napper had to work very hard for this trio of wins. He beat Dawn Baldry (11-7, 5-11, 11-6, 1-11, 11-6) and Ev Lucas (9-11, 11-4, 11-9, 12-14, 11-9). If that wasn‘t hard enough he completed his hat-trick with a 11-4, 6-11, 10-12, 11-8, 12-10 victory over Brian Reidling.

There was a second defeat for second-placed Chelmsford D in division three. Trevor Collin caused them the most problems. He powered his way to wins over Keith Martin (11-9, 12-14, 11-2, 12-10), Dave Parker (11-8, 11-8, 8-11, 12-10) and Jarek Pietraszuk (12-10, 15-13, 11-4). The leaders OCs D took full advantage. Mick Richardson was undefeated as they beat Writtle E 7-3. Chelmsford League Chairman Dave Porter pressed home his “seniority” by beating Chelmsford League General Secretary Dave Moles 7-11, 11-8, 8-11, 11-9, 11-9. 

OCs E ran out 8-2 winners over a two-man Maldon D. Richard Baxter led the way here with two wins. It was also 8-2 with Danbury G beating Danbury F. Peter Hance and Mo Hardy both won their threes singles. Nicky Reece-Ford had to pull out all the stops to beat John Robinson 8-11, 11-9, 11-7, 5-11, 12-10. With Dave Hancox calling the shots Danbury H beat OCs F 7-3. Bob Francis beat Luca Bailey 4-11, 11-8, 5-11, 11-5, 14-12 in  a well contested last game of the evening.    

Nothing can get in the way of Danbury J in division four. With Rob Kneale and Dave Powell both wining their three singles they beat Danbury K 9-1. Denis Balic was on target for Danbury K with an opening game win over Dave Goody (6-11, 6-11, 11-6, 11-9, 11-9). Writtle F had Ian Hockley undefeated as they beat Highwood A 6-4 whilst John Newman led OCs G to a 6-4 win over Chelmsford F. James Mitty beat Amanda Hogger 11-13, 11-6, 5-11, 4-11, 11-9 in the  closest game of the night. With Jon Dyson leading the way Chelmsford E beat Galleywood B 7-3 whilst Hatfield Peverel C had Peter Mortensen and Paul Mulley dominating proceedings  as they beat Highwood B 7-3. Hatfield Peverel C also beat Danbury K 9-1. Paul Mulley and Keith Flowers both won their three singles.

 In division five the leaders Galleywood C pulled further ahead by beating OCs H 8-2. Mark Glenister and Aidan Noguchi both bagged hat-tricks. Aidan Noguchi impressed by beating the experienced Stuart Wintle 12-10, 10-12, 8-11, 11-3, 11-9.  Chelmsford J came through 6-4 after a cracking match against Chelmsford H. Six games were decided in the fifth end and Jacqui Smith won her three singles. She beat John Wickens (11-8, 11-8, 11-5), Luke Richardson (12-10, 12-10, 5-11, 6-11, 11-8) and Jamie Dowsett (11-8, 10-12, 11-9, 7-11, 11-6).  

West Maldon (Oliver Wylie and Noah Sage) beat Chelmsford Leopards 3-2 in CLICK division 2(B). However they both lost to Cleon Fernandes who had to pull out all the stops to beat Noah Sage 11-7, 10-12, 11-9, 1-11, 12-10.

Kevin Worthington on top form as OCs B beat Chelmsford C 8-2

OCs B took a giant step towards winning division two in the Chelmsford & District Table Tennis League. David Cole and Kevin Worthington were both undefeated as they beat Chelmsford C 8-2 - a result that sees Chelmsford slip back to fourth. Kevin Worthington in particular was on top form racing to wins against Mike Johnston (11-8, 11-13, 11-5), Waseem Qureshi (11-9, 11-7, 11-6) and Wiktor Delimat (11-6, 11-13, 12-10, 11-7). Maldon B are second and Hamish Innes led them to a 6-4 win over OCs C. Gareth Joice showed up well for the losers by beating Ciaran Whelan 13-11, 11-4, 11-7. Danbury D have leap-frogged over Chelmsford C into third place and they impressed by beating Danbury E 8-2. Sam Lowman and Cameron Gray were both undefeated. Sam Lowman has hit a rich vein of form and his 86 % record illustrates this. Writtle C also won 8-2 with Gary Ward and Peter Barrett both staying undefeated against Hatfield Peverel B. Guy McKenzie made his mark for Hatfield Peverel with a fine 13-15, 11-18, 9-11, 11-6, 12-10 win over Dave Calleja. Team-work saw Danbury C home against  Maldon C. Neil Want, Dick Wyman and Tim Cramphorn all won twice as they won 7-3. Dawn Baldry won twice for Maldon C which included an excellent 11-7, 13-11, 11-6 win over Neil Want.

Division one has split into two halves and the top six teams and the bottom six sides will play each other twice in the second half of the Season with points earned in the first half counting as well. Maldon A are the team to beat in division 1(A) and Trevor Lloyd and Alex Abbott were both undefeated as they overcame Writtle A 9-1. The improving Lee McHugh scored an excellent 6-11, 11-9, 11-7, 12-10 victory over John Poysden for the losers.

Galleywood A lead the way in division 1(B) with 57 points and they beat Writtle B 8-2. James Hicks and Steve Kerns were unbeaten for Galleywood whilst Writtle’s Rod Maclennan and Lin Roff both overcame Gary Brignall. Second-placed Liberal (51 points) ran out 6-4 winners against Hatfield Peverel A. Andy Huckson and Adrian Pitt won twice for the Liberal side whilst Julie Johnson impressed for Hatfield Peverel. She beat Steve Pennell (11-1, 8-11, 11-8, 11-7) and Andy Huckson (10-12, 11-9, 11-6, 12-10).

OCs D are the new leaders in division three. Their thumping 10-0 win over Maldon D sees them take over at the top of the table, one point ahead of Chelmsford D. Gareth Joice, Mick Hayes and David Porter carried all before them. Chelmsford D were very hard pushed to beat OCs E 6-4. Connor Payne won his three singles which included two incredibly hard fought games. He beat Richard Baxter 11-6, 9-11, 6-11, 11-9, 15-13 and if that wasn’t close enough he also defeated Richard Upson 13-11, 2-11, 11-9, 12-14, 14-12. Richard Baxter in turn made his mark with a superb 11-6, 11-8, 11-7 win over Jarek Pietraszuk. Trevor Collin led Writtle D to a 7-3 win over Danbury F. Collin’s hat-trick included a  rather strange looking 11-2, 10-12, 11-4, 3-11, 11-2 win Dave Marsh. It was honours even between Danbury H and Writtle E in a match where Dave Moles was unbeaten for Writtle E. Peter Hance was undefeated for Danbury G who beat OCs F 6-4. He had to pull out all the stops to get the better of Ashton Parker 5-11, 8-11, 12-10, 11-4, 11-9.

Danbury J  (12 wins out of  12) - the runaway leaders in division four - have been the most dominant team in the whole  League this Season and this week they beat Galleywood B 9-1. Dave Powell retained his 100 % singles record but only just. Powell finally edged out Colin Blore 11-13, 11-6, 11-9, 7-11, 16-14. Blore also came very close to beating Rob Kneale before succumbing 3-11, 9-11, 12-10, 12-10, 8-11.  Writtle F stay third. David Meah was unbeaten as they defeated Highwood B 8-2. Martin Goddard impressed by beating both Andy Fox and Colin Griffiths. It was honours shared between Chelmsford E and OCs G. John Newman was unbeaten for the old Chelmsfordians side whilst Dusan Doszkoty pipped Sue Hickman 8-11, 8-11, 11-2, 11-16, 15-13 in the closest game of the night. Danbury K fought back strongly from trailing 4-2 to beat Highwood B 6-4. Denis Balic was the main difference between the two teams and he won his three singles. Roger Tiffin sealed the win for Danbury by beating Frank Neil 11-9, 11-4, 11-8 in the last game of the night. Chelmsford F’s 9-1 win over Highwood A flatters them slightly. They won three out of four five-enders. Adi Kamma beat Keith Fitzjohn 11-3, 9-11, 10-12, 11-9, 11-9 whilst Vineeth Kamma scored a superb 8-11, 11-6,12-10, 11-13, 12-10 win over Melanie Bonnett.

In Division 5 Chelmsford H defeated Hatfield Peverel D 7-3. Jamie Dowsett and Luke Richardson were both undefeated and Jamie Dowsett secured his third victory with a hard earned 11-3, 11-8, 9-11, 9-11, 11-7 win over John Kuhl.

The leaders Galleywood C were the week’s big winners in division five. Gary Copsey, Aidan Noguchi and Charlie Craig beat Chelmsford J 10-0.   There was a second win for Hatfield Peverel B (John Kuhl, Kath Little and Phil West) who beat OCs H 6-4. None of the Hatfield Peverel players were able to get the better of Stuart Wintle. Second-placed Chelmsford G ran out 8-2 winners against Maldon E. Sarah Austin remained undefeated.

There are now three CLICK Divisions - testimony to the tireless and enthusiastic Coaching that is taking place in and around Chelmsford. Danbury Dragons are off to a flying start in division 2 (A) and Ewan Hynd and Ben Porter were undefeated against Chelmsford Pumas who they beat 5-0. 

Chelmsford Rhinos and West Maldon both won 5-0 in division 2 (B). Chelmsford Rhinos (Josh Bickle and Dan Wise) carried all before them against Buttsbury Badgers whilst West Maldon (Noah Sage and Oliver Wylie) were equally dominant against Buttsbury Bulldogs. The match between Buttsbuty Bears and Danbury Demons was much closer with the Bears winning 3-2. Harry Hutt won his two singles beating William Ratcliffe (10-12, 11-8, 11-7, 7-11, 11-7) and Jensen Davis (11-6, 11-9, 11-8). Chelmsford Leopards also won 3-2. Cleon Fernandes beat both Tom Bird (8-11, 11-7, 11-8, 13-11) and Josh Peasgood (11-7, 1-15, 5-11, 11-6).

Danbury Griffins are the early leaders in division 2 (C). Calum Caldwell and Adam Thirkettle beat Buttsbury Bats 5-0. Caldwell fought back from losing the first end to beat Seamus Mellon 7-11, 11-5, 11-6, 11-9. Chelmsford Wildcats were 4-1 winners against Buttsbury Bees. Ali Ellis-Austin was the dominant player winning twice whilst George Hagland overcame Georgina Riches 11-13, 11-6, 9-11, 11-9, 11-9 for the losers. Buttsbury Beavers ran out 3-2 winners after Oscar Hutt had won both of his singles in dramatic fashion. Both wins were last-gasp affairs. He beat Theo Griffiths (11-5, 9-11, 11-7, 7-11, 16-14) and George Spicer (0-11, 11-6, 11-7, 5-11, 12-10). Well played indeed !.

Danbury D make impressive start to the second half of the Season

It’s a much shorter report than usual as the second half of the Season is underway in the Chelmsford & District Table Tennis League. Danbury D made an impressive start to the second half of the Season in division two. Sam Lowman and Cameron Gray both won their three singles as they ran out 8-2 winners against Maldon C. Cameron Gray impressed beating Brian Riedling (11-4, 6-11, 11-6, 12-10), Ev Lucas (10-12, 9-11, 11-3, 11-8, 11-9) and Roger Hance (7-11, 11-9, 11-5, 11-6). Promotion chasing Maldon B were even more convincing winners. They beat Danbury C 9-1. Ciaran Whelan and Hamish Innes both bagged hat-tricks although Hamish Innes had to pull out all the stops to get the better of Neil Want 9-11,11-4, 6-11, 11-7, 12-10. Tim Cramphorn was on target for the losers with a widely fluctuating 11-8, 4-11, 10-12, 11-6, 11-3 success against Colin Napper.

Division three leaders Chelmsford D romped home 10-0 against Danbury F. Alan Daswell put up stern resistance against Jarek Pietraszuk before succumbing 11-7, 11-5, 7-11, 7-11, 9-11 but thereafter it was the Chelmsford side who were calling the shots and Keith Martin, Jarek  Pietraszuk and Connor Payne completed the whitewash. Malcolm Storey and Dave Moles were both undefeated as Writtle E beat Danbury G 7-3. Malcolm Storey’s battle against Mo Hardy looked to be heading in Mo’s direction but it was Malcolm who reasserted himself in the fifth end to run out a 13-11, 11-9, 8-11, 1-11, 11-6 winner.

Danbury J’s 8-2 win over second-placed Chelmsford E puts them in a really strong position in  division four and they look to be home and dry even at this relatively early stage of the Season. Their record of 11 wins out of 11 speaks for itself as does the points total of 84-26. Dave Powell retained his 100 % singles record (20 wins out of 20) whilst Dave Goody and Rob Kneale both won twice. Dusan Doszkoty was the best of the Chelmsford players and he beat Rob Kneale (10-12, 11-5, 11-7, 11-13, 11-5) and Dave Goody (11-4, 11-9, 6-11, 10-12, 11-4). Galleywood B also ran out 8-2 winners. Colin Blore led the way with a hat-trick and Will Goodchild and Ron Salton both won twice.

Second placed Maldon E had no problem beating Hatfield Peverel E 10-0 in division five. Garry Eames, Denis Crapnell and Ross Wheeler carried all before them.
