Sam Lowman leads Danbury B to excellent 7-3 victory

Promoted Danbury B have made a very good start to their division one campaign. With Sam Lowman leading the way they scored their third win of the Season, beating Chelmsford C 7-3. Lowman with an impressive 80 % record won his three singles beating Waseem Qureshi (11-9, 11-8, 11-7),  Mike Johnston (11-9, 11-9, 11-&) and Wiktor Delimat (11-8, 12-14, 11-4, 11-4). Danbury A also impressed and they beat Writtle A 9-1. Father and son duo Gary and Daniel Young were both undefeated.  Daniel Young beat Lee McHugh 11-8, 6-11, 7-11, 11-7, 12-10 in the clash of the night. Ryan Pitt pushed Gary Young hard before succumbing 11-9, 3-11, 12-10, 8-11, 7-11. Danbury A (represented by Eric Green, Steve Whiteley and Dave Richardson this time) also beat Liberal 7-3, a match which rather uniquely featured 10 games that were decided by 3-0 margins.  Steve Whiteley scored his first full-house of the Season with three good wins. He beat Richard Jennings (11-7, 11-9, 11-9), Simon Webber (11-5, 11-7, 11-9) and Andy Huckson (11-1, 11-5, 11-8).  Leaders Maldon A made it six wins out of six. Two times Chelmsford Mens Singles Champion Alex Abbott was again their leading light and he downed the challenges of Casey Cross (11-5, 9-11, 11-5, 11-9) and James Denyer (9-11, 11-9, 11-7, 11-9).  Abbott has a perfect record of 18 wins out of 18.  Galleywood A scored their second win of the Season - a narrow 6-4 victory over Chelmsford B, No player stayed undefeated and Peter Barrett and Steve Kerns (for Galleywood) and Rob Shrimpton and Simon Jarvis (for Chelmsford) all won twice. Peter Barrett outlasted Rob Shrimpton over five action packed ends (11-4, 7-11, 6-11, 12-10, 11-8) but he missed out against the hard-hitting Simon Jarvis (9-11, 7-11, 11-5, 4-11). Chelmsford A ran out 7-3 winners over Rawreth. Newcomer Eren Gozcu made an immediate impact with a 11-8, 11-9, 11-8 win over Liam Squirrell – the first less that Squirrell has suffered this Season. Squirrell also had his work cut out against Casey Cross falling 2-0 behind. He eventually came through to win in five ends – 9-11, 7-11, 11-8, 12-10, 11-2.

Danbury stalwart Tony Forster produced a great performance as he led Danbury D to a 7-3 win over Hatfield Peverel A in division two. He beat Gareth Davies (11-2, 9-11, 11-8, 11-6), Julie Johnson (11-9, 11-4, 11-8) and Neil Freeman (9-11, 11-6, 10-12, 11-7, 12-10).  Danbury D lead the table after six games. Second placed Maldon B have a game in hand and they drew 5-5 with Writtle B. Ciaran Whelan was undefeated and his trio of wins included a 11-7, 11-4, 8-11, 11-3 victory against Phil Smith. Maldon B also defeated Hatfield Peverel A 6-4. Whelan was again the top player. Mervyn Perriman made his mark with a last gasp 11-7, 11-4, 8-11, 11-13, 12-10 victory against Neil Freeman. The match between Writtle C and Danbury D finished all square at 5-5. Gary Ward was unbeaten for Writtle whilst Neil Want and Tim Cramphorn both won twice for Danbury D.

Writtle D jumped into third place in division three. Trevor Collin was unbeaten as they saw off Danbury G 8-2. Nicky Reece–Ford won twice for the losers with wins over Peter Layzell and Colin Barham. Hatfield Peverel C led by an undefeated Nick Duce ran out 6-4 winners against Danbury J. Duce completed his hat-trick be defeating Dave Goody 7-11, 11-7, 11-9, 11-4. No one player managed to dominate in the match between Danbury H and Writtle D. However, no player went home empty-handed either. Danbury H emerged as 6-4 winners after Eamon Hall and Allan Steel both won twice. David Meah picked up two wins for Writtle and this included a last gasp 11-9, 11-4, 4-11, 7-11, 11-9 victory over Eamon Hall. Danbury E are second and they ran out 7-3 winners against Danbury F. David Gatheral (12 wins out of 12) held his side together with three wins. He completed his hat-trick with a fine  5-11, 11-4, 11-7, 11-2 victory over Steve Noble.

Writtle F moved off the bottom of the table in division four by beating OCs G 7-3. Ian Hockley led the way with a hat-trick and he completed his evening by beating David Bishop – the best of the OCs G players 11-7, 11-9, 8-11, 11-4. Second placed OCs F had Richard Upson to thank as they beat Chelmsford H  6-4. Upson had to work hard for all three of his wins. He beat Andy Swales (11-7, 13-11, 14-12), James Donald (11-8, 11-7, 7-11, 12-10) and Sarah Austin (11-6, 7-11, 11-8, 11-9). Two matches finished tied at 5-5. Amanda Hogger beat Ron Salton 11-5, 11-8, 11-7 to earn OCs G a share of the points against Galleywood B. Maldon D came back from 5-3 down to level against Chelmsford F. Garry Eames defeated Martin Hiskey 11-4, 17-15, 11-5 to secure the draw in the last game of the night.

OCs H were the week’s big winners in division five. Adrian North, Mike Lucey and Steve Pratt were all undefeated as they overcame Hatfield Peverel E 10-0. Steve Pratt fought back from 2-0 to beat Phil West 6-11, 7-11, 11-8, 11-6, 11-7. Team work enabled Writtle E to beat Danbury K 7-3. Alan Offord, Malcolm Storey and Neil Thompson all won twice. Neil Thompson did well  to beat  Denis Balic (who won twice for Danbury) 11-6, 10-12, 8-11, 11-7, 11-1. Highwood B (Frank Neill, Russell Downton and Francis Whitbread) ran out 8-2 winners over Buttsbury. Four games were decided in the fifth end and Highwood won three of them. Frank Neill completed his hat-trick with a fifth end win over Tomasz Krolikowski (11-8, 5-11, 11-8, 12-14, 11-7).  ARU won their third match of the Season – a hard-fought 6-4 victory over  Hatfield Peverel D. ARU won four games in the fifth end. Mubarak Sulaiman completed his hat-trick with a hard-fought 3-11, 11-6, 9-11, 11-5, 11-8 victory against Gary Simmonds.

Danbury Dragons are setting a storming pace in Chelmsford Junior League division 1A. Ewan Hynd and Sam Mortimer-Ford ran out 5-0 winners over Chelmsford Rhinos. 29 points out of 30 tells its own story. Chelmsford Pumas are second, and they also won 5-0. Joachin Mapes and Saul Chivers were both undefeated. Mapes had to work hard to beat Oliver Cheung 11-7, 11-8, 10-12, 11-8. Chelmsford Jaguars were 4-1 winners over Chelmsford Rhinos. Nyree Marsh led the way with wins over James Killeeen (11-7, 11-6, 11-5) and Nicholas Grace (10-12, 11-5, 11-1, 11-2). Chelmsford Cougars defeated Chelmsford Pumas 3-2, and with two games in hand on the Pumas they should move up the table in due course. Sudheep Kamma impressed by beating Saul Chivers (11-6, 11-6, 11-13, 15-13) and Joachin Mapes (11-7, 11-13, 13-11, 11-9).

Danbury Demons won their fourth and fifth games of the Season. They beat Chelmsford Falcons 4-1 in division 1B. Alex Porter won twice for the Demons and he retained his 100 % Singles record (six wins out of six). Danbury Demons also beat Chelmsford Tigers 5-0. Jenson Davis and Elliot Gardiner were both undefeated. It was a bad week for the Falcons who also lost a hard-fought match 5-0 to Chelmsford Panthers. Malachi O’Leary and George Spicer were both undefeated. George Spicer emerged as a winner against Ben Pickwick after five intense games (13-11, 11-9, 5-11, 9-11, 11-7).   

Division 1C produced two closely fought games. Chelmsford Eagles (Nathan Tew and Nikita Tkachuk) were 3-2 winners against Danbury Griffins. Nikita Tkachuk won both of his singles beating Dominic Kirk (11-8, 11-4, 11-6) and Adam Thirkettle (11-7, 11-7, 13-11). Danbury Griffins also won 3-2. Callum Caldwell won twice as they beat Chelmsford Wildcats. Caldwell beat Alesha Ellis-Austin 7-11,11-9,12-10, 11-9 (quite a battle) and Georgina Riches (11-13, 11-4, 11-4, 11-5).

OCs Lions lead the way in division 1D. Tom Bird was undefeated as they overcame Danbury Devils 4-1. Tom Bird led the way with wins over Toby Restall (11-7, 11-6, 11-9) and Ewan Sturrock (11-8, 10-12, 11-6, 11-6). OCs Lions also beat Buttsbury Bees 4-1. Josh Peasgood led the way with wins over Oscar Hutt (12-10, 14-12, 11-9) and Henry Gothard (11-6, 11-6, 11-7). Danbury Devils were in turn 4-1 winners. They beat Chelmsford Elephants. Lotte Mills picked up two wins. Lotte Mills beat Luv Goel 11-5, 12-14, 11-5, 12-10. Buttsbury Badgers beat Chelmsford 5-0. Ronnie Palmer and Zachary Samuels were both undefeated.

Maldon A setting a tremendous pace in division one

Maldon A continue to carry all before them in the first division of the Chelmsford & District Table Tennis League. Setting a pace which Eliud Kipchoge might be proud they have scored 47 points out of 50. Alex  Abbott, Trevor Lloyd and John Poysden despatched  Chelmsford C 10-0. John Poysden was pushed to five ends by Cristian Bernado but he surged clear in the fifth end to win 11-7, 11-13, 11-3, 7-11, 11-3. OCs A  were a player short against Chelmsford B but did well to draw 5-5. An inform Terry Dowsett was unbeaten for the Old Chelmsfordians side and he beat Rob Shrimpton 10-12, 11-9, 15-13, 16-14 in the best game of the night. Danbury B excelled in beating Writtle A 8-2. Dan Anderson and Sam Lowman both scored hat-tricks. Sam Lowman had to pull out all the stops to get the better of Matthew Brown 11-8, 9-11, 8-11, 11-8, 11-9.

OCs B turned out a very strong side in division two and their 9-1 win over Writtle C wasn’t a surprise. Kevin Worthington and David Cole both stayed undefeated whilst Gary Ward beat old rival Stephen Northcott 8-11, 11-4, 11-8, 11-8 for the losers. Danbury C also won 9-1, a very impressive result against Maldon C. Steve Buer and Ian Whiteside were both undefeated. The game that Maldon C picked up was also notable. Kelly Yuenyongpknan (“Kelly Y” to her friends  !) beat Gus Heath 11-7, 20-18, 11-0.

OCs D lead the way in division three with an impressive 30 points out of 40. With Mick Hayes and Dave Porter carrying all before them they beat OCs E 9-1. John Newman picked up the game for the losers. He beat Dave Newman (no relation !) 11-7, 11-7, 11-7. Danbury E also won 9-1.  David Gatheral and Tim Pulham gave nothing away against Danbury J.   Dave Goody came up trumps  against Gordon Gatheral 6-11, 11-9, 8-11, 11-3, 11-7 for  Danbury J. Danbury H were winners as well.  Rising star Ben Porter won his three singles against Danbury F. Porter’s hat-trick included a superb  11-9, 11-4, 11-8 victory against Dave Marsh.

Galleywood C stay top in division four but they had to work hard to beat Chelmsford F 6-4. Charlie Craig won his three singles. Revox Matthews and Dusan Doszkoty both won twice for Chelmsford F. Dusan Doszkoty battled past Gary Copsey 1-11, 11-9, 8-11, 11-8, 12-10 and Andy Hanlon 5-11, 11-9, 8-11, 11-6, 11-9. OCs F ran out convincing 9-1 winners against Chelmsford G. Farooq Ahmed  and David Newman both bagged hat-tricks. Luke Richardson was on target for the losers beating Richard Upson 11-6, 11-4, 11-6 in the  last game of the  evening. Team-work was the order of the day as Writtle E beat Maldon D 7-3. Malcolm Storey, Dave Moles and Neil Thompson all won twice. Neil  Thompson was poised at 2-2 with Garry Eames but he made  no mistake in the fifth end winning 11-13, 11-9, 2-11, 11-8, 11-1. That fourth end was clearly a game-changer !. The match between Writtle F and Danbury K finished tied at 5-5. David Meah was undefeated for Writtle F. He had to work hard to get the better of Kevin Willis 10-12, 11-7, 7-11, 11-5, 11-7 in his opening encounter.

Division five is a battle between the two Highwood teams at present. They both have 38 points. Highwood A were 10-0 winners against Hatfield Peverel F. Nicola Pippen, Melanie Bonnett and Keith Fitzjohn gave nothing away. Nicola Pippen completed proceedings with a 11-6, 6-11, 11-9, 10-12, 11-7 victory against Mick Carter. Highwood B were also convincing winners – 9-1 against Chelmsford K. Frank Neill and Martin Goddard both won their three singles. Russell Downton won twice and he set the “wheels in motion” with an opening game win against Peter Davenport 11-13, 9-11, 11-7, 13-11, 11-9.   Maldon E beat ARU Rhinos 8-2. Brian Dixon gave Maldon a winning start with a last gasp 5-11, 11-8, 8-11, 11-8, 15-13 victory against Jordan Corbett. Buttsbury scored their third win of the Season by beating Hatfield Peverel E 7-3. James Hughes and Tomasz Krowlikowski were both undefeated. James Hughes had to pull out all the stops to best Davinia Brazier 9-11, 9-11, 11-6, 11-3, 12-10. OCs M led by an undefeated Stuart Wintle were 7-3 winners against Chelmsford J. Wintle completed his hat-trick with a 11-8, 11-7, 3-11, 10-12, 11-9 win over Rajesh Dewan. Team work saw Hatfield Peverel D through to a 6-4 win against Danbury L. Grigor Abaryan, Andy Whiley and Richard Drozd all won twice to counter Paul Thirkettle’s hat-trick.

Danbury Dragons, runaway leaders of division 1 A of the Chelmsford  Junior League made no mistake against Chelmsford Leopards winning 5-0. Ben Porter and Ewan Hynd were both unbeaten. Hynd came under pressure against Al Lane but he prevailed 12-14, 11-6, 7-11, 11-7, 11-5.

Chelmsford Falcons (Charlie Donald and Alan Jiang) were 5-0 winners against Buttsbury Bears in  division 1B. Charlie Donald came through in five sets to beat Ben Brown 11-4, 4-11, 8-11, 11-2, 11-8.  Buttsbury Bulldogs in turn beat Buttsbury Bears 3-2. Harry Hutt was undefeated with wins against Aidan Tucker (11-7, 12-14, 11-2, 7-11, 11-8) and Ben Brown (8-11, 11-7, 7-11, 11-8, 12-10). Two very hard fought wins indeed !.

Division 1C produced three 3-2 scorelines. Chelmsford Antelopes lead the way with  17 points out of 25 - three wins out of four. George Bilbow and Ravit Dewan shared wins against Nikita Tkachuk and Jeremy Kamau of Chelmsford Eagles but Bilbao and Dewan combined better to take the all important doubles 11-7, 11-5, 11-9. Jacob Lawrence was undefeated for Buttsbury Beavers against Ramsden Bellhouse. He beat Georgina Riches 11-1, 11-3, 12-10 and Ali Ellis-Austin 11-8, 11-7, 11-8.  Jacob Lawrence was also unbeaten as Buttsbury Beavers defeated Buttsbury Bats. Lawrence defeated Ryan Beresford-Cole 11-8, 11-7, 11-6 and George Hagland 11-6, 11-5, 11-8.

Chelmsford Elephants (Ben Pickwick and Eddie Pickwick) were 5-0 winners against Chelmsford Wolves in division 1D. Eddie Pickwick scored a hard fought opening game win over Jack Doyle 11-7, 8-11, 11-4, 8-11, 11-8. Buttsbury Badgers led by an undefeated Oscar Hutt beat OCs Lions 4-1. Oscar Hutt had to dig very deep to get the better of Vyoma Upadhyaya 8-11, 18-16, 11-9, 10-12, 12-10.  Buttsbury Bees (Joseph Hutt and Henry Gothard) in turn ran out 4-1 winners against Buttsbury Badgers. Zachary Samuels beat Henry Gothard 11-5, 5-11, 6-11, 12-10, 14-12 in another thriller !

Ugur Saglik unbeaten as Chelmsford A beat OCs A 7-3

The first division of the Chelmsford & District Table Tennis League produced some top class   action this week with the match between Chelmsford A and OCs A topping the bill. There were surprises galore. OCs’ Paul Lucas powered his way past James Denyer 11-5, 11-8, 11-7 but Lucas was in turn beaten by Casey Cross 11-4, 11-7, 18-20, 8-11, 10-12. Cross in turn lost 6-11, 12-10, 7-11, 11-5, 8-11 to the improving Dan Berry. 2019 Chelmsford Mens Singles Champion Ugur Saglik secured his hat-trick with a 11-4, 5-11, 8-11, 12-10, 11-7 win over Paul Lucas, and this gave Chelmsford a 7-3 victory.  Danbury A beat  Galleywood A 6-4, in a match where 16 games were decided by scores of 11-9 or closer. Keith Adams (in his first game of the Season) was undefeated for Danbury and this included a 7-11, 2-11, 11-5, 15-13, 12-10 victory over Steve Kerns. A more attack-minded Eric Green did well to beat Peter Barrett 11-7, 11-5, 11-6 whilst Gary Brignall did well to beat Steve Whiteley in five ends : 10-12, 11-3, 10-12, 12-10, 11-4. Maldon A  are setting  a very strong pace and they made it 37 points out of 40 by beating Writtle A 10-0. Their ever present trio of Trevor Lloyd, Alex Abbott and John Poysden carried all before them. Trevor Lloyd fought back from 2-1 down to beat Lee McHugh 11-7, 5-11, 7-11,  11-9, 11-9. Rawreth were also 10-0 winners against Writtle A. Liam Squirrel, Kim Shead and Charles Sweeny gave nothing away. Rawreth fielding a completely different side were in turn on the wrong end of a 9-1 defeat against Chelmsford C. Waseem Qureshi and Cristian Bernardo both won their three singles whilst Wiktor Delimat won twice. Delimat set Chelmsford on their way with a 5-11, 11-4, 11-8, 4-11, 13-11 win over Dale Gutteridge. Paul Brown was Rawreth’s sole winner and he beat Wiktor Delimat 9-11, 11-7, 11-7, 11-8. The match between Danbury A and Chelmsford  A was harder fought and it finished tied at 5-5. Simon Jarvis was unbeaten for Chelmsford and he beat Eric Green 11-13, 8-11, 11-7, 11-8, 11-5 in his opening encounter.

Maldon B made it three wins out of three in division two. Colin Napper, Ciaran Whelan and Steve Scholz all won twice as they defeated Maldon C 6-4. Tom Page lost narrowly to Ciaran Whelan 11-13, 11-13, 8-11 whilst Dawn Baldry impressed greatly with a 11-9, 11-7, 8-11, 2-11, 11-9  success against Ciaran Whelan. Danbury C with Gus Heath undefeated beat OCs C-7-3. Heath sealed his third win with a 9-11, 11-6, 11-2, 11-4 victory over Dave Porter. The matches between Danbury C and Chelmsford D and Hatfield Peverel A and OCs B were both 5-5 draws. No one player stayed undefeated in the clash between Danbury and Chelmsford with David Gatheral and Chris Buer winning twice for Danbury and Paul Nicol and Shirish Basant Rai picking up two wins for Chelmsford. David Gatheral had to pull out all the stops to beat Shirish 14-12, 3-11, 11-6, 9-11, 11-9. Kevin Worthington was unbeaten for OCs B whereas Julie Johnson and Gareth Davies both won two singles for Hatfield Peverel. Trevor Carter  beat Neil Freeman 11-9, 5-11, 9-11, 11-5, 11-7.

Danbury H impressed in division three with a 8-2 win over Danbury J. Eamon Hall led the way with three wins and this included a five-setter against Dave Goody (11-8, 11-4, 3-11, 5-11, 11-7). Team work won the day as Chelmsford E beat OCs E 7-3. Harry Buckle. Vineeth Kamma and Dave Parker all won twice. Parker showed great resilience to beat Tom Barker 7-11, 7-11, 12-10, 11-8, 11-5.  The match between Danbury G and  Danbury F ended as “stalemate” (5-5). Dave Marsh won his three singles and he beat Nicky Reece-Ford 6-11, 11-9, 11-8, 10-12, 11-5 in his most testing encounter.

Maldon D jumped into third place in division four by beating Writtle F 9-1. Tom Elder and Garry Eames were both undefeated. Elder used all his experience to beat Colin Griffiths 12-10, 15-13, 12-10. Chelmsford H with James Donald to the fore beat Chelmsford F 7-3. Ian Austin came through a five game thriller to get the  better of Rev Mathews 10-12, 12-10, 11-7, 9-11, 13-11. OCs F raced into a 6-0 lead against OCs G but had to settle for a 7-3 victory. David Bishop did well to beat Farooq Ahmed 11-8, 8-11, 12-14, 11-8, 11-5 whilst Amanda Hogger defeated Richard Upson 7-11, 11-4, 6-11, 11-7, 11-7.   Chelmsford H with James Donald (12 wins out of 12) again  dominating the action also beat Chelmsford G 6-4. Donald had to pull out all the stops to get the better of Luke Richardson 9-11, 11-4,11-9, 11-13, 11-7. It was also 6-4 as leaders Galleywood C beat Writtle E. Mark Glenister and Charlie Craig carried all before them. Glenister was at pains to beat Dave Moles before he finally won 8-11, 11-8, 8-11, 11-6, 11-9.

Highwood B lead the way in division five. Martin Goddard was undefeated as they emerged as 8-2 winners against Hatfield Peverel F. Mick Carter won twice for the losers, beating Frank Neill and David Cockrell. Hatfield Peverel E also won 8-2 against Chelmsford J. Mick Carter was again to the fore and he secured a hat-trick with three convincing wins over Craig Studley (11-4, 11-7, 11-7), John Wickins (11-3, 11-6, 11-3) and Shengbin Zhu  (11-6, 11-1, 11-1). Shengbin Zhu did well to beat John Kuhl 11-4, 11-9, 6-11, 8-11, 11-8. Team work enabled Highwood A to defeat ARU 6-4. Melanie Bonnett, Keith Pallett and Nicola Pippen all won twice to counter Weronika Bozek’s hat-trick.  OCs H emerged as 8-2 winners against Hatfield Peverel D. They won three tight five enders in the last three games as they maximised their winning margin. Mike Lucey beat Andy Simmonds 12-14. 10-12, 13-11, 11-9, 13-11 and Josh Peasgood beat Gary Simmonds 7-11, 10-12, 11-8, 11-3, 11-9. Suzanne Shaw completed a memorable OCs  team performance by getting the better of Andy Whiley 2-11, 5-11, 11-4, 11-3,  11-9. Maldon E ran out 6-4 winners against Danbury L. Andrea Alleyne won her three singles beating Finley Wheeler (7-11, 11-2, 11-1, 11-9), Elliot Gardiner (11-3, 11-6, 11-8) and Ken Wilding (11-1, 11-8, 11-5).

Ewan Hynd led the way with wins over Sudheep Kamma (11-7, 9-11, 11-5, 11-9)  and Josh Bickles (10-12, 11-1, 11-9, 11-7). Danbury Dragons also beat Chelmsford Jaguars 5-0. Ben Porter paired up with Sam Mortimer-Ford  on this occasion. Sam Mortimer-Ford beat Annabel Sweeney in five ends (10-12, 11-6, 7-11, 1-17,11 -3). Chelmsford Pumas (Saul Chivers and Ned Ryder) also won 5-0. Ned Ryder beat Ben Chivers 11-9, 10-12, 11-8, 10-12, 11-7 in the closest game of the night.

Danbury Demons were 5-0 winners over Chelmsford Panthers in division 1B. Alex Porter and Finley Wheeler carried all before them. Finley Wheeler fought back from a first end set back to beat Allesha Ellis-Austin 4-11, 11-4, 11-7, 12-10.  

Chelmsford Antelopes lead the way in division 1C. They beat Danbury Griffins 4-1. George Bilbow won both of his singles beating Callum Caldwell (11-6, 11-6, 3-11, 8-11, 11-7) and William Ratcliffe (11-9, 11-8, 11-2). Chelmsford Antelopes also beat Chelmsford Wildcats 5-0. This time Todd Martin teamed up with George Bilbao. George Bilbao had to pull out all the stops to get the better of Georgina Riches (11-9, 3-11, 8-11, 11-9, 12-10). The match between Buttsbury Beavers and Chelmsford Eagles was a close one and Buttsbury shaded it 3-2. Jacob Lawrence won twice. He beat Aarav Mehta (11-4, 9-11, 12-14, 15-13, 11-7) and Nathan Tew (11-7, 11-4, 9-11, 11-9).

Division 1D leaders Danbury Devils were 5-0 winners against Chelmsford Wolves.  Lotte Mills and Ewan Sturrock made it 13 points out of 15. Buttsbury Badgers were narrow 3-2 winners against Chelmsford Elephants. Ronnie Palmer and Seamus Mellon both won once although they both missed out against Ben Pickwick. In the closest game of the night Ben Pickwick beat Ronnie Palmer 6-11, 11-9, 6-11, 11-6, 13-11. Buttsbury Bees complete this week’s fixtures and they beat Chelmsford Elephants 4-1. Joseph Hutt was undefeated for the Bees.

Peter Barrett leads Galleywood to 7-3 win against Danbury B

With James Hicks injured Galleywood A have done well to secure the services of Peter Barrett and he was undefeated as they beat Danbury B 7-3. Barrett impressed by beating Sam Lowman 7-11, 11-8, 11-6, 11-6. Lowman in turn made his mark with a quick fire 11-7, 11-7, 11-4 victory over  Steve Kerns whist Kerns prevailed  with a last gasp 11-4, 8-11, 11-13, 11-2, 14-12 victory against  Dan Anderson in the closest game of the evening. The leaders Maldon A gave nothing away beating Liberal 10-0. Trevor Lloyd, Alex Abbott and John Poysden carried all before them.  Rawreth A also won 10-0.  A very impressive showing from Charles Sweeny, Liam Squirrell and Babul McLeod.  Chelmsford A with Casey Cross winning his three singles beat Chelmsford C 6-4. An amazing  eight games were decided in the fifth end and Casey  Cross fared best.  He beat Wiktor Delimat  (11-7, 6-11, 11-8, 5-11, 11-8), Waseem Qureshi (12-10, 8-11, 5-11, 11-6, 11-8) and  Cristian Bernardo (9-11, 11-6, 11-8, 6-11, 11-2).

Division two produced two close matches. Julie Johnson was undefeated although her trio of wins wasn’t enough to enable Hatfield  Peverel A not to lose 6-4 to Writtle C. Julie beat Dave Calleja (11-6, 5-11, 11-9, 5-11,  11-8) John Parodi (11-4, 8-11, 11-3, 11-8) and Gary Ward (6-11, 11-8, 7-11, 11-13, 11-8). Three good wins,  The match between Danbury D and Maldon C finished tied at 5-5. Thomas Page was undefeated for Maldon C and this included a 4-11, 9-11, 11-6, 22-20, 11-6 victory against Tim Cramphorn.

Danbury E made it two wins out of two in division three.  David Gatheral and Ken Sheard both bagged hat-tricks against Chelmsford E who they beat 9-1. Ken Sheard fought back strongly from 2-0 down to beat Adi Kamma 4-11, 12-14, 11-4, 11-2, 11-3. Team work saw Hatfield Peverel C through to a 7-3 win over OCs E. Paul Mulley, Phil Shippen and Nick Duce all won twice whilst John Newman picked up two wins for the Old Chelmsfordians side. Paul Mulley defeated  John Newman 5-11, 4-11, 11-8, 11-8, 11-7. OCs D also won 7-3, beating Danbury F.. Mick Richardson led the way with a hat-trick and this  included a 7-11, 11-5,  11-9, 11-6 win over Dave Marsh – the best of  the Danbury players. Hatfield Peverel C did well to beat Chelmsford E 6-4 with Martin Archie leading the way with three wins. Dave Parker came up trumps for Chelmsford with a 13-11, 11-6, 10-12, 8-11, 11-4 success over Paul Mulley. Danbury J also won 6-4 – good going as it was Nick Reece-Ford who won three  times for their opponents – Danbury G. Rob Kneale and Dave Powell both won twice for Danbury J. Dave Powell beat Mo Hardy 10-12, 11-3, 4-11, 11-6, 12-10 over five widely fluctuating ends.

Galleywood C with 25 points out of 30 are setting a hot pace in division four.  Andy Hanlon was undefeated against Writtle F (who they beat 8-2) whilst Ian Hockley picked up two wins for the Writtle side. Hanlon defeated Hockley 8-11, 11-6, 11-7, 15-13. OCs F also won 8-2. Richard Upson led the way as they defeated Danbury K. Upson had to  work hard to beat Kevin Willis 11-8. 4-11, 11-9, 11-9. It was 8-2 again as Maldon D beat Galleywood B. Denis  Crapnell led the way with a hat-trick whilst Will Goodchild won twice for the Galleywood side.  Maldon D also drew 5-5 with OCS F. No one player stayed undefeated and Maldon’s Denis Crapnell and OCs’ David Newman and Richard Upson all won twice. David Newman fought back from 2-0 down to beat Garry Eames 7-11, 6-11, 11-6, 11-9, 11-4, The match between Chelmsford F and Writtle E also finished  all square. Again no one player remained undefeated and this time Rev Matthews (Chelmsford) and Malcolm Storey and Dave Moles won twice. Malcolm Storey  prevailed in five ends by the odd looking scoreline of  11-0, 6-11, 11-5, 9-11, 11-7 against Martin Hiskey. Danbury K had Denis Balic to thank as they beat Chelmsford G 7-3 whist Chelmsford G also won 7-3. They beat OCs G. Adi Kamma completed his hat-trick with a 11-7, 8-11, 11-16, 10-12, 11-5 victory over David Bishop.

With a large bunch of scorecards to sift through in division five 12 year old Ollie Barrett (son of Galleywood ace Peter) impressed as Buttsbury shaded a close match 6-4 against Hatfield Peverel  F. Barrett completed his hat-trick by fighting back from 2-0 down to get the better of Braintree League  stalwart Alastair Brown 10-12, 6-11, 11-1, 11-9, 11-7. John Kuhl led the way with three wins as Hatfield Peverel E defeated Chelmsford K 8-2 whilst Mubarak Sulaiman won his three singles in ARU Rhino’s 7-3 victory against Buttsbury. Sulaiman had to pull out all the stops to beat Steve Hagland 11-5, 5-11, 11-7, 11-13, 11-7. Highwood B did well to beat Danbury L 6-4 – good going as it was Norman Hayes who was  undefeated for Danbury.   Hayes fought back strongly to beat Francis Whitbread 8-11, 1-11, 11-5, 12-10, 11-7. Chelmsford J led by a hat-trick from Rajesh Dewan were 6-4 winners over Maldon E. Kym Eames came out on top after a real scrap with John Wickens 5-11, 11-8, 6-11, 11-6, 15-13. Highwood  A are top and they beat Danbury L 8-2. Melanie Bonnett and newcomer David Cockrell were both undefeated whilst Keith Pallett won twice.  Another newcomer Paul Thirkettle beat Keith Pallett 11-5, 11-4, 2-11, 11-8. The match between Chelmsford J and Hatfield Peverel D finished tied at 5-5. Five games were decided in the fifth end and Bruce Li came through a very hard fought battle to see off Andy Simmonds 11-8, 8-11, 8-11,11-9, 11-9. OCs H made Maldon E pay for being a player short and they won 9-1. Stuart Wintle and Adrian North both did well to beat Colchester League  stalwart Roger Warren. Highwood B (Frank Neil, Martin Goddard and Anne Lockhart) all won twice as Highwood B beat ARU  Rhinos 6-4. They all missed out against yet another impressive newcomer – Weronika Bozek.

Chelmsford Jaguars ran out 5-0 winners against Chelmsford Leopards in division 1A of the Chelmsford Junior League. Melinda Abraham Victor and Annabel Sweeney carried all before them. Chelmsford Cougars beat Chelmsford Jaguars 4-1. Harry  Chivers just saw off Nyree Marsh 11-13, 7-11, 11-7, 11-9, 13-11.

Division 1B produced two 5-0 results. Buttsbury Bears (Jacob Lawrence and Ben  Brown) beat Chelmsford Panthers. Jacob Lawrence ran out a 11-13, 11-0, 11-9, 15-13 winner over Malachi O’Leary. It was 5-0 again when Chelmsford Falcons beat Chelmsford Tigers. Todd Martin and Oliver Cheung carried all before them. Oliver Cheung showed up well with a 11-6, 11-7, 12-14, 13-11 win over Rayyan Hudi.

Chelmsford Wildcats beat Chelmsford Eagles 4-1 in division 1C.  Alisha Ellis-Austin was undefeated whilst Aarav Mehta was on target for the losers with a 11-2, 7-11, 11-9, 11-8 victory over Emily Guilloux.

OCs Lions have made a strong start in division 1D. They have beaten both Chelmsford Elephants and Chelmsford Wolves both 5-0. Vyoma Upadhaya and Tom Bird were both undefeated. Bird did well to beat Prayak Gupta (Chelmsford Wolves) 11-8, 8-11, 11-7, 11-8.
