League report week commencing 23 September
Premier division favourites, Barrow, opened their season with a comprehensive 9- 1 victory over the newly promoted County Officers , whose solitary point came from a fine doubles win. Mike Mercer made a welcome return to the Barrow squad, and played alongside Rob Wylie and new signing Steve Green. Elsewhere Mark Pugh led Corus to a welcome 7 -3 success over a slightly weakened Pulford trio, who nevertheless included Milan Puchala and. Thomas Halucha.
Division 1 action saw Paul Arrich lead Saughall Port to a fine 7-3 win over Matty Gilmour and the Barrow. B side, and Andy Taylor ensured County Officers A defeated the useful Groves A team 6-4. Relegated Pulford A were held to a draw by a Whitby Sports team captained by Terry Marshall.
In Division 2 Linda and Lynsey Powell both hit maximums as promoted Groves C got off to a terrific start with a 9-1 scoreline against Tarporley, whilst both Officers squads in this section had good victories. Tony Collard and Steve Williams led the C team to a big win over Electric Sports and Andy Davies and Colin Fergus also hit three wins each as the B team out pointed a strong Barrow C side 8-2. Jim Whitaker led leaders Barrow D to a comfortable 8-2 scoreline at home to struggling Whitby Sports A.
