TABLE TENNIS. REPORT
Jeremy Lappin returned to the ranks of the Pulford team and led them to a decisive 8-2 victory over the reigning Premier division champions British Steel. He was ably backed up by Milan Puchala who only lost out narrowly to Simon Jones . Elsewhere Shaun Hall maintained his unbeaten start to the season as Corus B were held to a draw by a useful Select trio who surprisingly all defeated Lancs Vets player Brenda Buoey.
In division 1 Alf Perry led Pulford A to a 6 4 success over leaders Saughall Port and although Steve Clift hit a maximum in the Groves derby the A team claimed victory by 6 4. Russell Benstead led improving Barrow B to a fine 7-3 win at home to Pulford B and Martin Greene was undefeated as Corus C out pointed Beechwood 7-3 to remain in contention.
Richard Moore continued his fine run in division 2 as Officers C drew against leaders Barrow D and a 5-5 result also occurred in the clash between Electric Sports and Groves B. Shay Harper hit a fine win against talented Lynsey Powell but Groves C hit back to earn a terrific draw away at Barrow C.
In the top clash in division 3 favourites Barrovians recorded an emphatic 8-2 scoreline against main rivals Saughall Institute in a match that was a credit to the section.
Cup action saw Corus C reach the final of the division 1 competition with a terrific 7-2 win over Barrow B, captain Stuart Hambley showing fine form. Division 2 quarter finals fixtures resulted in victories for County Officers C and Whitby A who now meet for the right to compete in the final.
Russell Hunt and the full strength Barrow F squad proved too strong for Northcote in a division 3 quarter final winning 8-1 and into the final go Barrow E who comfortably out pointed a sporting Officers D side 5-3.
The veterans representative side defeated Trafford League 7-3 in a Premier Div Lancs/Cheshire fixture with England vets ranked no. 4 Tomasz Rzeszotko hitting a fine treble.
