In the all Pulford division 1 clash Ray Worthington led the A team to an emphatic 8-2 victory over Mike Phelan and the B squad, which keeps them narrowly clear at the top from rivals County Officers A who were held to a draw by improving Groves A. In a later match the same Groves side defeated Saughall Port 6-4 despite a fine maximum from in form Paul Arrich, and John Bowen was another player to hit a maximum but failed to save Beechwood from defeat against Stan Houghton and the Pulford A side. Elsewhere Russell Benstead led Barrow B to a victory at Groves first team and Barrie Russ ensured challengers Corus C remain in contention following a 7-3 success away at Whitby Sports.
In division 2 a first victory for Mal Turley and his Groves B side was obtained against leaders Barrow D, a really terrific result. In a later match Jim Whitaker ensured the villagers got back onto winning ways, albeit only a 6-4 scoreline against Linda Powell and her Groves C team. Andy Davies continues to lead the County Officers B side but his maximum against battling Groves C was obtained the hard way, each game going to 5 sets.
Dave Jump was in fine form for division 3 leaders Barrovians as they out pointed rivals Barrow E 7 -3, Jenny Blain assisting with a terrific win over in form Steve Tibbett. Russell Hunt led unbeaten Barrow F to a narrow victory over a sporting Officers F squad, and Ian Roper ensured Northgate climbed the table following success over struggling Electric Sports A. Saughall Institute remain second with an away win over Officers D , Robin Arrich continuing his rapid improvement with a comfortable maximum.
A weakened Veterans side lost heavily at Warrington but the A team hosted Blackpool and with Simon Jones in top form triumphed 7-3 to remain 3rd in division 1. Simon was well backed up by teammates Rob Wylie and Ray Worthington.
