League report wc 6 January 2014

With ladies singles champion Hannah Winfield in unbeatable form County Officers A remain top of division 1 following a very tough 6 -4 victory over rivals Corus C , a match where six games went to a deciding 5th set.  Elsewhere Dave Southall ensured that Pulford A maintained their unbeaten record with a hard fought win over Barrow B by a similar scoreline, and Geoff Willetts was another player in fine form as Beechwood held Saughall Port to a draw.  Despite two fine wins from Robin Barker struggling Whitby Sports went down to a narrow defeat at Groves for whom Steve Clift hit a splendid maximum.

Division 2 action saw Saughall Deva, led by Wayne Taylor, record a terrific 7-3 scoreline at home to a more than useful County Officers B squad , and the victors were also strengthened by the inclusion of Dave Trousdale. Laurie Williams and his Whitby Sports A continue to struggle despite the good form of Mike Moss and they were unable to prevent County Officers C registering an emphatic 8-2 victory.

Brian Burr led division 3 leaders Barrovians to a fine 9-1 win away against a sporting Northcote squad but rivals Saughall Institute continue to press and Bob Salisbury, Maureen Cartwright and Robin Arrich were all unbeaten in a 10-0 victory over Peter Zemroch and his Groves D team.
Brian Kelly was another player in top form as he led the Electric Sports A team to a comfortable and very welcome 8-2 success at improving County Officers F .

The only Premier match saw leaders Corus B , led by unbeaten Shaun Hall, out point County Officers 9-1 with Keith Roper defeating Dave Bruce for the only Officers point.
