The Veterans Premier division team entertained a strong Manchester league side in an important Lancs/Cheshire clash at the Groves club last week, the home team fielding the same trio that accounted for Preston 7-3 three weeks ago. After falling behind 0-2 the home side rallied brilliantly and ran out victorious by a similar scoreline with Mark Pugh undefeated once again and showing the form that could win him the singles title later in the year. He was ably backed up by teammates Wayne Percival and Tomasz Halucha and this result should ensure Premier survival next season when it is hoped top player Tomasz Rzeszotko will have recovered from injury.
