In the Premier Division Barrow entertained and defeated current champions, British Steel, by a scoreline of 7-3 with Jonathan Taylor hitting an emphatic maximum. Teammate Aaron Beech was narrowly outpointed by Roumanian player Florin Barbus but defeated in form Simon Jones in a five set match and Mike Mercer chipped in with a vital win over Steel captain Ivor Jones. Elsewhere Mark Pugh swept to an impressive three wins over County Officers as Corus recorded a comfortable 8-2 victory to move into fourth position.
In division 1 Saughall captain Dave Ash hit a fine win over British League player Hannah Winfield but failed to stop Officers A from winning the match 7-3 to increase their lead at the top of the table. Robin Barker of Whitby Sports dented the hopes of Groves A with three terrific wins as the bottom placed team hit a terrific 6-4 result. Matty Dodd played well for Barrow B as his team out scored Beechwood 7-3 and John Chan was undefeated as Pulford B defeated Groves 6-4 in a welcome victory.
In division 2 Colin Fergus was in top form for County Officers B as his team fought out a draw with title favourites Barrow D and Richard Moore was also undefeated as Officers C drew 5-5 with another team in tremendous form, Groves B. Tarporley are having a much better season than of late and Ian Swaffield hit two fine wins in a 6-4 away success over relegation threatened Whitby Sports A; Dave Galley again hitting a maximum.
Maureen Cartwright helped Saughall Inst to an 8-2 division 3 victory over Barrow E, and Janet Timewell and Brian Kelly led Electric Sports A to a hard fought draw with in form County Officers E. James Deutsch has had a fine season and led Officers D to an emphatic victory over there own F squad, and bottom placed Groves D finally avoided defeat, sharing the points with a slightly weakened Northcote team.
