Current Liverpool champion Jonathan Taylor, held his nerve to edge out fellow county player Neil Powell at the end of a thrilling handicap cup clash between Premier sides Barrow and Newton and the village team progressed by just 4 points. Holders Newton A also exited the competition when Pulford, led superbly by Simon Jones, knocked them out by another small margin, this time 11 points the difference. In another all Premier clash Stan Houghton captained Pulford A to a comfortable victory at home to County Officers, and to complete a splendid week for the village club their division 1 table topping B side also reached the quarter finals when they narrowly defeated Terry Marshall and his Groves team. Elsewhere Graham Boyd led Groves B to victory at home to a sporting Beechwood squad and Gareth Hughes was in good form for Barrow B as they narrowly defeated a fighting Saughall Deva trio.
The cup for divisions 2 and 3 also produced some excellent performances. In the all County Officers clash Tony Collard and his C team recorded a terrific 50 points success over the strong B squad, and Dave Galley once again inspired the Tarporley side to a surprisingly comfortable win over the very experienced Barrovians team. Elsewhere Steve Jones led the Electric Sports to a splendid and very welcome victory at County Officers F, Veronica Nicholas was in fine form for victors Barrow C against their D team, and Glyn Jones led possible cup favourites Saughall Institute to an emphatic scoreline at home to Groves E.
In the only league match played a Mike Moss maximum failed to save struggling division 2 side Groves C from defeat at home to improving County Officers C, and relegation is now a distinct possibility.
