The Veterans first team opened their Lancs/Cheshire Premier league season with a tremendous 8 2 victory away against the current champions Warrington. With all players

available the team was led by top 15 nationally ranked Tomasz Rzeszotko, and he was well backed up by Cheshire County players Wayne Percival and Ken Connor.

The newly formed A squad were at home in a division 2 clash with Barrow in Furness A and again with most players available they fielded a very strong trio and hit a terrific 9 1 scoreline, Milan Puchala and Simon Jones being undefeated and Andy Eagles hitting 2 wins on his veterans debut. A number of these players have played at least one division higher and if regularly available the team should be in contention  for promotion.

Another player making his Town debut was John Chan who won 2 of his games against an experienced Blackpool B team in a division 3 clash, but unfortunately this was not enough to save the team from a narrow 4 6 defeat. Andy Taylor and Alf Perry performed well and each won a singles.

In the local cup results Groves B overcame Beechwood 5 1 in division 1 and now face County Officers. In a division 2 Burrell  Cup clash Saughall Port entertained Officers B and went down 3 5 to a very useful squad led by Colin Fergus, who earlier in the week showed the strength of this section when he played in the Premier for Select and hit two fine wins away at Groves.

Bob Salisbury finally got Saughall Institutes season under way in division 3 and they began with a terrific 5 2 cup win over high flying Officers E. Steve Clift and Phil Hough both hit maximums in division 1 as Groves A defeated newly promoted Groves C 9 1 to move into second spot.
