The league fielded 3 teams in the Lancashire/Cheshire open age competition on Sunday and the first team did exceptionally well in the Premier division. Four matches were played on the day and 5 1 victories were recorded over Preston, Trafford ,Warrington and Oldham to set them up for a real title challenge in February when they play unbeaten Bury, favourites Liverpool and experienced Manchester. Joe Killoran and Aaron Beech won all 8 of their singles the only players on the day to do so, and were well backed up by experienced county player Wayne Percival. Shaun Hall and Tomasz Rzeszotko await in the wings.
The A and B teams were at Halton in divisions 1 and 2 and had mixed fortunes, winning and losing matches during the day to be placed mid table. Rob Wylie captained the A squad and was backed up by Andy Eagles and Ray Worthington, the B team included Andy Taylor and John Chan with Mike Mercer and Hom Wang completing the squads at short notice.
In the local leagues Joe Cutts led Pulford A to a 6 4 Premier victory over Select and Milan Puchala hit a fine maximum as Newton A defeated Pulford B 7 3. As expected the two relegated County Officers squads are beginning to climb the division 1 table and both recorded terrific victories. The first team , led by Harold Furber outpointed Saughall Deva 9 1 and Neil Ayling led the Officers A side to an important 6 4 success at Barrow A.
In division 2 Dave Ash was undefeated as Saughall Port defeated lowly Electric Sports 8 2, and Brian Davies led leaders Officers C to a comfortable similar scoreline at struggling Tarporley. Elsewhere Will Sleddon was in good form for Officers B as they recorded a fine narrow victory over highly placed Groves D.
