By defeating challengers Barrow A 6-4 Mike Phelan and his Pulford B squad became worthy division 1 champions , and have also reached the Odex handicap cup final in April. John Allera inflicted a rare defeat on the Pulford number 1, John Chan , but it has been a remarkable season for the player as he also played for Clwyd at County level.
Another title was also decided when Groves D narrowly outpointed a sporting Barrovians side 6-4 to become champions of division 2 and gain probable promotion, something that just eluded them last season. Once again Steve Sung was in top form hitting a fine maximum for the Ellesmere club.
The other two sections are not yet decided although Newton took a big step towards the Premier title with a terrific 8-2 scoreline away at Pulford. Mark Pugh was in unbeatable form and was well backed by Shaun Hall and Neil Powell, but the last remaining 100% record in all divisions ended when Rumanian Florin Barbus recorded a tremendous 5 set win over Hall. Elsewhere in the Premier Joe Cutts and Ray Worthington led Pulford A to a fine 7-3 success over bottom placed County Officers.
The division 3 title will all depend on the final match between leaders County Officers D, who were held to a draw by their F team, and challengers Saughall Institute who overcame Groves E 9-1. The Officers squad lead by 3 points prior to the match.
