The Veterans A team entertained Blackpool in a Lancs/ Cheshire division 1 match on Tuesday, and honours ended all square after an entertaining encounter. Blackpool had suffered relegation from the Premier and the hosts had gained promotion having been champions of division 2 so a 5 5 result was encouraging. Simon Jones was in top form and was well backed by Andy Eagles with Clwyd county player Nev Lacey unlucky on the evening.

The B team welcomed the powerful Warrington A squad in an earlier division 3 clash and although they fought for every point they were unable to score against the potential champions who were relegated last season. Andy Taylor came closest to a victory but to no avail.

In the local league Groves won their Premier Cup match at County Officers by the narrowest of margins, 5 4 , with Russell Benstead in good form. Also through to the semi finals are Newton who recorded a comfortable victory away at Pulford A.

In round one of the division 1 cup County Officers B fought hard away at Newton B before being defeated 5 3 with Mike Mercer leading the way winning his singles matches.

Division 2 cup action saw Linda Powell lead her Groves D team to a comfortable 6 2 win at home to promoted Officers D, and in division 3 the holders, Saughall Institute were duly despatched 5 1 in a quarter final clash away at Barrow E , a repeat of last seasons final. Alan Gilmore was well backed up by teammates Daryll Pickering and Brian Wareing and they are joined in the semis by Officers G who edged out the Officers F squad 5 3. Newcomer Rafal Kolodziejski won both his singles.
