The Veterans A representative team clinched the Lancs/Cheshire division 2 title when they comprehensively defeated a sporting Warrington A squad 9 1. Simon Jones and Andy Eagles were undefeated and Ray Worthington chipped in with 2 hard fought wins to complete the victory.
In an earlier encounter the Veterans B team were somewhat thwarted in their attempts to finish in a promotion spot in division 3 when they were held by Kendal A to a 7 3 victory, another couple of points probably needed to finish runners up, but nevertheless a very satisfactory season with only one defeat.
In the local league, Premier champions Barrow duly defeated Pulford B 6 0 in the cup semi final , but in the final on the following evening were outplayed by a powerful Newton A squad 5 1. Joe Killoran hit 2 terrific wins, including a close 5 set victory over Jonathan Taylor, and he also teamed up with Ken Connor to inflict a serious blow to the champions outpointing Taylor and Aaron Beech. Newton captain Milan Puchala recorded a hard fought win over Rob Wylie to complete the stunning victory .
Saughall Port won the division 3 cup but were pushed all the way by the sporting Barrow D squad who at one point were holding the victors at 3 3 before Bob Salisbury and his team won two successive games.
In division 1 Geoff Willetts hit a fine maximum for Beechwood in a 6 4 win over Saughall Deva but his team still finished in bottom place and face relegation .
Jack Auckland and Andy Moulton were both in terrific form for Electric Sports in a division 2 clash with Barrovians and ran out 6 4 winners. The visitors welcomed back Brian Burr after injury.
