In the first Lancashire/ Cheshire match of the season the Chester/E Port Veterans A side entertained an experienced Barrow in Furness B squad and recorded an impressive 8 2 victory. Andy Eagles and Rob Wylie hit maximums and were well backed up by Andy Taylor. They next travel to play Wigan league at the end of November.
In the local Premier Division Groves were indebted to a Thomas Peake maximum as they managed to force a home draw against promoted Officers B . This moved Groves off the bottom of the table to be replaced by Newton A.
In an outstanding division 1 cup tie Steve Clift led Groves A into the semis as they progressed 5 3 against the previously in form Groves C squad. This result completed a disappointing fortnight for the C team as they lost heavily 3 7 a week earlier away at improving Barrow A led by John Allera. Elsewhere the eagerly awaited all Saughall cup clash between the Deva and the Port teams had to be postponed due to venue problems.
In a division 3 outstanding quarter final the Groves E trio of Chris Hough, Neil Powell and Stuart Jones recorded a fine 5 3 away victory over the Officers H squad and await with confidence the semi final draw.
