In an important Premier division match Shaun Hall was in unbeatable form as he led Newton to a vital 6 4 victory over a strong Pulford team that is vying with them for runners up position behind potential champions Barrow. Elsewhere Newton A struggled to overcome a spirited Select team 7 3 for whom Andy Moulton hit two fine wins. For Newton A Haseeb Hanif showed he could be a good signing and he also recorded two successes.
In the Odex handicap cup the last Premier teams exited the competition. Steve Clift led Groves A to a comfortable 40 point victory over County Officers A, and a strong Barrow squad found the Groves C handicaps just out of reach and went down by a narrow 15 points margin. Steve Sung was in good form for the victors as they reached the semis. Also through are possible favourites County Officers B who, having defeated holders Newton in round one now outpointed Newton B by a comfortable 35 points in the quarters. Charlie Cooke filled in admirably for star performer Mark Simpson.
In a delayed Robert Moreton round 1 match Tarporley Electric A recorded a fine 31 point success over fellow division 3 side Officers F but now face a difficult quarter final tie away at Barrow D captained by Darryl Pickering and including talented Matty Gilmore in the squad.
