The Veterans representative teams had mixed fortunes in the Lancs/Cheshire divisional fixtures last week. The firsts welcomed Barrow in Furness for a Premier match and started well with a win for Malcolm McEvoy but overall the team struggled and eventually lost 2 8. Mark Pugh had a fine win and was unlucky in his other games but Ken Connor was unable to turn good play into successes.

The B team , however, returned from a long trip to Kendal with a terrific 7 3 victory, with Jens Andersen leading the way and being very well backed by Andy Taylor and Keith Bartlett. They have had a very successful season in division 2 and with just a home match to play against Lancs/ Morecambe could finish in top three position.

In the local divisions Premier champions elect, Barrow, faced Newton and a draw was a fair outcome. In a very entertaining clash Shaun Hall hit a hard fought maximum against a Barrow team featuring debutant Gemma Grant as well as Malcolm and Daniel McEvoy.

In division 1 Ray Gregory was in terrific form and led Barrow A to a comfortable 7 3 win over struggling Newton B and Graham Boyd hit a maximum for Groves A against their own B squad.

Division 2 highlights included an Ian Barlow treble for leaders Officers C against Officers E and Jonas Potyka showed his true potential when stepping up to this division for Officers D and being undefeated in the draw with highly placed Barrow B.

Darryl Pickering was in top form for Barrow D in division 3 as they leapfrogged to the top following a 9 1 win over lowly Officers G.
