News Report wc 23 April 2018

Last week as the season draws to an end two further competitions were brought to a successful finale. From an entry of nearly 50 players 18 fought out the Joe Farrington final at Groves and most clubs were represented as well as all four divisions. From the exceptionally close groups and quarter finals 4 players emerged to contest the semis, 3 from the County Officers club and one from Groves.

Andrew Taylor, who had previously narrowly outpointed Andy Taylor, took on surprise package Uthpala Dayarathna (Uddy) and after a hard hitting match triumphed in the deciding game. In the other semi Charlie Cooke took on Mark Simpson and after an exceptionally tight encounter with great rallies Mark emerged victorious . As expected the final went to 3 games with Andrew drawing first blood using his points advantage to great use, but Mark rallied and in the decider ran out a narrow winner and a very worthy champion. A late finish! Thank you to Linda and the Groves club for allowing us to stage this very competitive and unique event where players play purely for themselves!

To continue his terrific season Mark Simpson also played a very important part in his teams Odex Final win by 26 points over a fighting / sporting Groves C squad. County Officers B are also division 1 champions and Peter Powell winners , congratulations to Mark , Colin Fergus and Daniel Webber.
