The Bottom of Division 4 is Now a Lot Closer

The 5 teams who are only separated by 3 points are Gt Horkesley H, CRGS, Pegasus G, Lawford E and Rowhedge I. The first match of the week was between Lawford E & St James E. Phil Daley was the star player for Lawford as he was unbeaten in all his matches. Alan Rutledge took him close, but lost out 10-12 in the 5th set.

The next match was The Gilberd B against Gt Horkesley H. The 'school team' dispatched of Gt Horkesley H in quite quick manner, winning all but two matches in straight sets (the other two going to 4 sets). Dale & Jane Young salvaged a couple of points the Horkesley, by both beating debutant Bradley Mann. The result leaves Gilberd top, opening up an 11 point advantage over the next team down, St James E.

University of Essex B made light work of Pegasus G, comfortably beating their opponents 10-0. Long Hei Chan claimed Player of the Match as he won all of his games in straight sets, something his team mates could not match. This means the University are still slowly catching up to the Gilberd, as they are 19 points behind, but have played 3 less games than the leaders.

The final match of the week was between Gt Horkesley G and Rowhedge I, which saw the ex-Colchester Men's Single's Champion play in his first match for many years. He comfortably swept aside the regular ladies of Horkesley and Lewis Bardell did well to win the team's only other point of the evening, beating Chris Jones in 4 sets. This meant even with the formidable Rik in the side, Rowhedge I still went down 6-4 and still lie bottom of the division, but it is now very close and may not be bottom for long! After all, the only way is up for youngsters!
