League matches resumed in 2014 after the interval for the Cup competitions with some interesting scorelines in Division 1 part 2 .The new year brought a change in fortunes for Rowhedge D as they notched their first win of the season in style with an 8-2 away victory at the expense of Great Horkesley C, with maximums for Dan Rhodes and Neil Huatan. Walton B also beat Horkesley C narrowly by 6-4, but a 9-1 loss to Lawford B combined with Rowhedge D’s first victory means that the seasiders 2nd team slip to bottom as Rowhedge D now lead them by a point. Pete Freeborough and Rob Wood starred for Lawford B in what was a closer match than the scoreline suggests, with several tight matches. Walton’s A team started 2014 with a bang as they raced to a 9-1 win on Dedham’s carpet. Paul Meikle was unbeaten , joined by John Rice. In their second match Dedham held a 5-4 lead over top of the table Pegasus A, but Mike Tracey could not get past the brick wall of Ian Whiteside and a draw was the ultimate outcome. Another unbeaten performance from Whiteside helped the leaders to a narrow 6-4 win over Essex Uni A with his win over Matt Horrocks’ providing a compelling and keenly fought encounter of attack against defence. The all Lawford match up ended up with a 7-3 win for the A team with Nick Galley and Graham Mortimer untroubled here but it was a different story in their next match as Steve New and Neil Freeman both continued their good form with maximums in an 8-2 Tollgate victory.
