C for comeback for Horkesley means new leaders in Division 1

University of Essex showed they have strength in depth as despite lacking regular Lilo Roesch, they recorded another fine win, this time over Lawford A, to go top of Division 1.  With Ziyue Chi picking up 2 and Oli Pink / Matt Horrocks unbeaten all night, they racked up 9 points between them- only Nick Galley was able to get on the scorecard for the visitors.

Walton A go second after a narrow win over their own B team, benefitting from a great comeback by Horkesley C at Pegasus A.  In a match where no player was unbeaten and the player of the match on the losing side, 2 each for Dearman, Rice and Meikle was enough to see them home 6-4 winners over Walton B, for whom Derek Willis  scored half of their points. Walton A are now 3 points clear of long term leaders Pegasus A who could only draw at home to Horkesley C.  Pegasus lead 4-2 at the break  and had a match point in the doubles but Ken Lewis and Richard Kemp hung on to win that match 3-2, then wins for Kemp and Paul Brownlie left Ian Whiteside needing to beat Ken Lewis for the draw. Whiteside kept his 100% record but altho’ unbeaten in 2014, 2 draws and a 6-4 win leaves Pegasus in third place.

Dedham A keep up the pressure in fourth with an 8-2 winning margin over Rowhedge E.  Martin Edwards put up his customary strong resistance with 2, but Paul Tracey lead his team home with a fine player of the match performance, unbeatable on the night. Rowhedge D’s 2 match revival  ended with a stalemate at Tollgate, with Stephen New claiming all 3 Rowhedge  scalps in a 5-5 draw.
