League Press Report - Week 9

Lawford C continue to dominate Division Three of the Colchester & District Table Tennis League. They beat a strong Rowhedge H team 7-3, with Peter Armes winning all three of his games as well as helping to win the doubles. These wins for Armes means he now boasts the highest player average for the division on 100% (12 wins from 12). St James E remain second after an impressive 9-1 win over Pegasus F. Jill Canning was the only player for Pegasus able to pick up a point. The Gilberd A proved to be too strong for Dedham C. They came out victorious 10-0 to move away from the relegation zone. Rowhedge I are still fighting for the second promotion spot. They just beat Lawford D 6-4 thanks to Cameron Simpson winning all of his games.

Division Four looks as unpredictable as ever. It is not yet clear who the top two teams will be come the end of the season. Tollgate F sit top of the pack after beating Rowhedge K 7-3. The Gilberd B are just behind, winning 7-3 against Tollgate E. Roger Springett won all of his games for the Gilberd. Tollesbury C beat Lawford E 6-4. Rob King remained unbeaten come the end of the evening.

The top of the Premier Division is still too close to call who will be crowned champions when the final game of the season has been played. Rowhedge B are still top of the table after beating Dedham A 8-2. Mark Wicker won all of his games for Rowhedge. Tollgate A reduce the gap between 1st and 2nd to 5 points by thrashing Pegasus A 10-0. This leaves Pegasus in deep trouble at the foot of the table, 9 points adrift from safety. Tollgate B beat St James B 6-4, with Nigel Hodder winning all of this games for Tollgate. Rowhedge C beat Rowhedge A by the same scoreline.

In Division One, Walton B and Lawford A played out a 5-5 draw at the top. Gt Horkesley B helped their chances of staying up by beating Tollgate C 8-2. Ken Lewis and Steve Holland were unbeaten for Gt Horkesley. Pegasus B pile more pressure on Rowhedge D after beating them 9-1. Ang-Ang Capili won the only point for Rowhedge.

Tollgate D extend their lead at the top of Division Two thanks to a 7-3 victory over 2nd-place Pegasus C. Tom Elder was too strong for all of Pegasus’ players. Lawford B beat St James D 7-3. Paul Hewitt and James Tindle won all three of their individual matches. Tollesbury B did well to draw 5-5 with Dedham B after turning up with only two players. Bryan Speller achieved a maximum for Tollesbury. Rowhedge G just managed to beat Pegasus D 6-4, with Mark Glenister winning all of his games for Rowhedge.
