Week 21 - League Summary

With only a week to go in the Colchester & District Table Tennis League, anything could still happen in Division One. There are matches still to be played everywhere, which could determine who gets promoted and relegated at the end of the season. Walton B helped their chances of promotion after beating bottom-of-the-table Rowhedge F 10-0. At the other end of the table, Tollesbury A lost 4-6 against Dedham A. However, picking up 4 points against a team in 2nd place is by no means a negative. Tollesbury still have to play Rowhedge F and St James B, both of whom are still fighting to stay in the division.


In Division Two, 2nd place Gt Horkesley D had a surprise loss against Lawford B. Paul Hewitt was the only player to remain unbeaten at the end of the evening. Rowhedge G scored a very important 5 points against Pegasus C. Edward Rudge helped Rowhedge move 5 points clear from the bottom two, however Gt Horkesley E have two games in hand over them. Gt Horkesley E overcame Dedham B 6-4 to keep up with the other teams around them picking up points. Gt Horkesley F look set to go down, even after beating Pegasus B 6-4.


Tollesbury A have boosted their chances to clinch the Division Three title. They thrashed Lawford C 9-1 to move 12 points ahead of 2nd place St James D. However the Clacton-based team does have an outstanding game against bottom team Gilberd B still to be recorded. Gilberd A had a very good result against Pegasus D, beating them 8-2. Robert Wood-Norman and Ang-Ang Capili won maximums for the Gilberd. Pegasus F and Dedham C drew 5-5 in the other game of the week.


Rowhedge I are now guaranteed to join Rowhedge K in moving up to Division Three from Division Four. Rowhedge I beat 3rd place Lawford D 9-1 and now cannot be caught by Lawford. Rowhedge J had a convincing 10-0 victory against CRGS A, even though CRGS had only 2 players playing the match. Tollgate E and Pegasus G shared the points with a 5-5 draw.


In the Premier Division, Pegasus A recorded an important 6-4 win over Rowhedge B in their fight for survival. Rowhedge A beat Gt Horkesley B 8-2, whilst Tollgate B beat Univesity of Essex A 7-3.
