Match Report

They say in boxing that "a good young'un will always beat a good old'un"
but in table tennis pimply bats and wily tactics of the experienced
players can sometimes still win.  And so it was that the hard hitting
youth of Tollgate E were mostly tamed in an entralling match by the
mature players from Lawford.   For Tollgate their youngest player Liam
Harris had two notable victories, one in particular against Peter
Armes.  Liam recovered from squandering an eight point lead in the final
set. He was 9-1 ahead but it quickly became became 9-10 before he reeled
off three straight points to seal the victory.  Bright Bedding also
played his part blasting past John Colvin.  But the experience and
current fine form of Mark Seymour coupled with his idiosyncratic style
was too much for all the Tollgate players.  He won all three of his
matches without being extended beyond four sets.  Peter Armes won his
other two matches and a see-sawing doubles win for Lawford, coming back
from 2 sets behind, gave them an easier looking victory than it was.
