Having been permitted to play out of order, Man of the Match, Cristian Poiana-Lazarec (3) put the visitors in a strong position with a fine maximum and winning contribution in the doubles with Kevin Turner (0). However, form and past results might shave suggested a likely 6-4 victory for the home team going forward from that point. But 81-year-old Doug Green (1) playing up from lower divisions and from 2-0 down beat Adrian Leech (1) in a marathon, but entertaining chop fest. Doug had also taken a game off both Phil Wolski (2) and Colin Brown (2) before they worked out a solution. Wolski and Colin Brown ensured the draw for GHTTC, but the plucky Kevin Turner (0) put up stubborn individual resistance and was 2-1 ahead before Wolski found his confidence to out-hit him in games 4 and 5. This is now the fifth draw for both home team and visitors, but the right result on a most enjoyable night full of good sportsmanship and ‘bon homie’. Doug even brought his own tea bag; one wonders what was in it, and can we all have some?
