With the visitors fielding both the 2019 Division Two Individual Closed Champion and the Runner Up a win for Tollgate E over Great Horkesley C was perhaps predictable. But it was far closer than the 3-7 score suggests. MOM and Division Two Champion Liam Harris (3) was twice 2-1 down in sets and snatched victory in the final two sets against a slightly unlucky Adrian Leach (1) 10-12, 10-12, whilst John Gillett (2) also succumbed to Harris in five sets after taking a solid lead; with a similar five set outcome in the doubles. Bright Bedding (2) overcame Leech in three, but in all three sets the margin was merely two points with two sets going past deuce. Tollgate’s Mike Baldwin (1) playing up from Division Three secured a fine win over Colin Brown (0), but Leech and Gillett were too strong for him albeit he took games off both, whilst the experience of Gillett overcame Bedding in the final pairing to secure the home teams deserved third point, but overall, the Tollgate youngsters deserved their victory, but it was extremely fine margins in all bar three of the pairings.
