In what has proved to be an uninteresting season as far as the league table is concerned Blades A completed the formality of winning the league title which seemed to be nailed on from a very early stage.The same applies at the foot of the table with a number of clubs strengthening leaving Copthorne marooned at the bottom for several weeks.
With Marc Burman otherwise engaged with David Dimbleby in Bognor Regis his replacement was one Owen Brown aged 13.Having struggled to beat 91 year old Fred Batten in the semi final of the shield competition Owen led his team to the final winning by 7 points.On his premier league debut he turned in a fantastic performance winning all three brushing aside Steve Pound from two nil down,Tom Kinga and Richard Pelc who swept aside Rory Scott for the second time this season,so he took the fully deserved Man of the Match award aided by Rory and Will Michell who got two each.
John Callcut although not back to full fitness scored an impressive treble against Crawley Sports beating Sally Henke and Graham Beaney in five and Simon Knivett three straight,he had great support from Paul Newton who took three and Graham Green two only going down 11-13 in the decider versus Sally.
Kate Cheers lone win over Barrie Gilbert was all the Beverley sisters had to show for their efforts against Crawley Community A who look certain to finish third.Mr Smooth Phil Richardson talked his way to a rare MOM award and Paul Carter was lucky to beat Kate in five games from 2-1 down when she suddenly stopped hitting winner after winner on his serve.8-1 to CC A.
Chris Pullinger earned a hard fought 11-9 in the fifth victory over Richard Hazell but two man Copthorne went down 1-8 to Blades B.
Blades A thumped 4th placed Foresters B 9-0 to clinch the title.Messrs Gunn,Hazell and Bennett despatching Tony Steel,Mike Robinson,and Tim Surrey in double quick time.
Gary Bonner returned to the form of earlier in the season losing all three to James Wheatley,Jan Collado and Phil Nicholls.It was left to Gerry Pugh winning two against James and Phil and Dave Steel one.6-3 to the C team.
Foresters A consolidated second place with a drubbing of Horsham A with only Chris Vincent and Graham Barnes putting up any sort of resistance,9-0 to Foresters.
