Sussex over 60s finish a creditable third in County Premier Division

Sussex over 60s team of Johnny Clarke,Barrie Gilbert,Tony Rowell and Sheila King defeated Lancashire in the first match of the second weekend 9-1.Clarke beat Ken Jackson and Fred Bainbridge,Gilbert beat Jackson and Ron Bennett and Rowell defeated Bennett and Bainbridge,Sheila won against Sylvia Graham plus one mixed and one mens doubles.

In the second match Robin Stace came in for Tony against Yorkshire and Sussex went down 1-9 with only Barrie Gilbert picking up one singles against Freddy Yeung.

JC injured himself playing Yorkshire and dropped out of the last match versus Kent.Tony Rowell and Barrie Gilbert both beat Roger Pingram and Robin Stace and Sheila King had excellent victories over Keith Clark and Diane Pearce respectively.So Sussex went down 4-6 leaving Sussex in third place with another season in the Premier Division secured.

In a thrilling climax Essex had to beat Yorkshire to win the title and Yorkshire need a draw.Yorkshire recovered from 1-5 down to snatch the draw and the title.
