Crawley and Horsham Juniors Seal Double Double

The top seeds and title holders of the Carter Cup, Crawley & Horsham, had a comfortable 5-0 first round match against Leamington Spa.

Round Two saw Crawley & Horsham’s Josh Bennett and George Hazell have their second 5-0 win, this time against Watford. In the final set of group matches the two unbeaten teams faced each other. Crawley & Horsham recording a 4-1 win over Liverpool with Rhys Davies beating George in five in the last game.

Crawley & Horsham, started well in the final against Wembley with Josh Bennett winning against Gaurav Arvin, Israel Awolaja levelled the score against George Hazell but Crawley & Horsham went into the lead with their doubles win. Josh finished it off in style against Israel to make it 3-1 for the Crawley team to retain the trophy.

Final placings: 1 Crawley & Horsham, 2 Wembley & Harrow B, 3 Liverpool, 4 Leicester, 5 Wembley & Harrow A, 6 Watford, 7 Leamington Spa, 8 Keighley. 

Guildford faced Crawley & Horsham’s Kate Cheer and Alice Hazell in the Bromfield Trophy. The girls have not practiced at all recently due to Exam Studies but Crawley won 4-1 with Kate winning both her singles and Alice beating Estelle Kelly.

They now had a tough prospect in North Herts, the matches were all close two of them going to five and the other three to four. However, Cheer got another maximum and with Hazell won the doubles, so a 3-2 win. 

Title holders, Crawley & Horsham, now met Hull for the second year running for the trophy. Kate Cheer started well with a win over Zoe Hewitt but highly ranked Jasmin Wong then levelled the score against Alice. Crawley & Horsham went 2-1 ahead with a great win in the doubles. Jasmine once again levelled the score against Kate. All square 2-2 so down to the final match but here Alice Hazell held her nerve well coming home 3-1 against Zoe to ensure her team once again held the Bromfield Trophy aloft.

Final placings: 1 Crawley & Horsham, 2 Hull, 3 North Herts, 4 Cambridge, 5 Leamington Spa, 6 Guildford
