Pride of Table Tennis Spotlight: Barbara Bayford

As we enter the last three days of the nomination period for this year’s Pride of Table Tennis awards, we put the spotlight on one of last year’s regional winners.

Barbara Bayford has been awarded Woodlands Table Tennis Club’s Volunteer of the Year for her tireless support and volunteering at the club.

As part of the process, Barbara’s nomination was also moved on to the regional Pride of Table Tennis Awards, where she was shortlisted and won the South East Volunteer of the Year.

Greg Yarnall, Head of Development and Volunteering, for Table Tennis England said:

It was with great honour that we could make the presentation of one of these winners at Woodlands TTC in Sussex.

Over 60 people were there to mark the occasion and pay tribute to Barbara for everything she has done for the Club over the years.

I would like to personally thank Barbara for her commitment to the sport.

David Richardson, Club Chairman at the time, commented:

Barbara’s title of Premises Manager does not adequately reflect the wide range of tasks that Barbara undertakes on behalf of the club.

She offers a welcoming hand to all new members and is supportive of all club members whether they be league or social players.

No task is too much trouble for Barbara and everything is undertaken with enthusiasm and efficiency.

It was recognised that without Barbara’s drive and phenomenal passion for the game, the club would not be the great success it is today.

The Pride of Table Tennis Awards were launched in September 2016 as part Table Tennis England’s ambition to recognise volunteers from grass roots level upwards.

The awards give clubs and leagues the opportunity to recognise their volunteers at a local level with the Club Volunteer of the Year category.  These volunteers then progress into the regional and national awards within their relevant category.

If you believe someone in your organisation deserves to be recognised you have less than a week left to nominate them into the Pride of Table Tennis awards, with the 22nd September deadline fast approaching.
