Devon Vets 1 report from Kevin Nicholls

Devon Vets TT team travelled hopefully to Matravers School, Westbury, Wiltshire hoping to clinch promotion from Division 2D. Having narrowly missed out in the 2015-16 and 2017-18 seasons by finishing 2nd, the objective at the start of the season was to go one better and finish top of this hard fought division. Before today we had 5 wins from 5 following a resounding 9-1 victory against Somerset 2nd team last week. Many thanks to Penny Mann and Dennis Gibbs who stepped in at late notice and were unbeaten on the day. Our last game today was a top of the table clash against our local rivals Somerset 1. Due to the unavailability of Paul Laverty we were fortunate to be joined by Simon James, who stepped in at relatively late notice (thanks Simon) and what a fantastic contribution he made, remaining unbeaten. Regulars Mike Hugh and Sonja Ryland were both on fine form and played superbly and this help us to achieve a great 8-2 win against very strong opponents with some great table tennis ?? played.

Objective achieved, 6 matches played and 6 wins. A great way to end a very successful and enjoyable County Vets season! We are all looking forward to challenging ourselves in Division 1 next season. Thanks to all the team for the commitment shown this season and for making it such an enjoyable experience and thanks to all our opposing teams who have all played some great competitive table tennis and most importantly played the game in the right spirit. Well done Team Devon!!
