Chairmans report

The Chairman thanked all those attending for their input and hard work during the season. With a special thank you to Paul (Treasurer) and John (League and Results Secretary).

He went on mention that Tuesday practise nights were generally attended well by around 12 to 13 adults and up to 8 juniors. He commented that he could see no other way that new teams would enter the league other than by Juniors coming and making their way into the league via the Tuesday night practise. He encouraged other Committee members to attend on Tuesdays.

He also hoped to be able to include an extra team possibly two, made up of the Juniors from Practise night and hoped to be able to use The School Gym as a venue with a possible 7:00pm start. A discussion started amongst attending members covering options from using the Gym as their home and away venue, using 2 tables or more so that the matches would finish by 9:00pm.

Treasurer Report.

Paul reported that the league made a loss last season. This was mainly due to the fact that registration fees were transferred from the 2020-21 season so none were collected and banked for this current season. Also some trophies were purchased leading to a loss of approximately £400.

Copy of account.

Results Secretary Report.

John stated that the league was just grateful that we had had an uninterrupted season of play. Albeit without any additional competitions such as The Championships and Pot Luck Doubles.

Hopefully this coming season will include the normal competitions as players seem to be coming to terms with Covid and the fact it is likely to be us for many years to come.

There were no other reports Offered.

Discuss Format of League for coming season.

A discussion ensued mainly concerning start times for the league. The discussion included views from Chris Willoughby who had submitted his views by email.

It was concluded that the format of the league would continue as it had previously.

Playing 3 players per team. 9 singles matches and one Doubles match. Playing best of 5 games. The only change will be the start time which will change to 7:00pm start for all teams. Any player arriving after 9:00pm will be likely to forfeit his points.

Registration fee setting .

After much discussion it was decided to maintain the same registration fees. In doing so however, it was decided that the league would only purchase trophies for Juniors. So apart from the Cups that circulate annually, senior players will not receive trophies.

Registration evening will be on Monday 8th August at The Saracens Head between 8;00pm and 9:00pm. Registration forms can be downloaded from the website.

Handicap League.

After considerable discussion it was decided that the Handicap league would start after the normal league had finished. This would give the committee plenty of information on the standard of players enabling a fair handicap to be set. It would be proposed to set handicaps at a handicap meeting in mid December.

Players must have played at least 3 matches in the league to qualify to take part in the handicap league.

We also discussed what should happen to the Premier/First Division League Experience allowance. This was unclear and there needed to be a definitive ruling.

So simply put this was the conclusion. If a first division player plays a premier division player, then he receives the extra 1 point. If a first division player plays a first division player, then no one receives the extra one point. In the unusual circumstance when a first division player is standing in for a premiership player, then if he is playing a premiership player then he will receive the extra 1 point, but if playing a first division player will receive no extra point. This will be written into the rules.

Any Other Business.

David Mortlock wanted to discuss Sportsman of the year and The most Improved player.

After some discussion it was concluded that Harry Skilleter was the most improved player

Scott Boast Sportsman of the year.

David also advised that Diss High School will not be hiring out their Gym during school holidays. So from the 22nd July 2022 until 5th September 2022 and from 24th October until 28th October 2022 and from16th December 2022 until 4th January 2023 and from13th February 2023 until 17th February 2023 and from 29th May 2023 until 2nd June 2023 .
