Pot Luck Doubles 2017

The Pot Luck Doubles competition took place on Tuesday 14th November at Diss High School.

18 league players turned out to take part in the event.

The draw for pairing the players resulted as follows:

Conrad Chudak & Jonathon Mortlock, James Crisp & Alan Worthington,  

Tim Simms-Baalham & Oliver Garnham, Mark Garnham & Stuart Langridge,

Paul Mortlock & Sam Wood 

Pat West & Alan Levine, John Bryant & Jotham Crisp, , 

Chris Jones &  Martin Lainsbury,  Phil Mortlock & John S*****

The pairing were placed into two groups as follows and all pairings in each group would play each other:-

Group  1 was made of the first 5 doubles pairing listed above

Group  2 was made up of the next 4 doubles pairing listed above

The winners and runners up to go through to the semi finals

There were a lot of close games in the group stage but the resulting winners and runners up were :-

Group 1 winners  and runners up were Conrad Chudak & Jonathon Mortlock , James Crisp & Alan Worthington who both won the same number of matches so were equal first place

Group 2 winner : Chris Jones & Martin Lainsbury runner up Pat West and Alan Levine.

The first semi final of the evening was Conrad & Jon against Pat & Alan. This was the best of 3 sets. After the first 2 sets it was even. Conrad and Jon were 10 - 8 ahead in the third set, it was Conrads serve ( which had been steady all evening) First serve went off the end of the table and the second into the net. Conrad was a little unhappy. However the pair then went behind but came back in the end to win the match 13-11 and to go through to the final.

The second semi final was between James & Alan v Chris & Martin. This was also quite a close match but it was won in two straight sets 10 - 12, 14 -16  to Chris & Martin.

The final was between Chris & Martin and Conrad & Jonathon. Chris & Martin proved to strong and won the final in two straight sets 11-6 , 11- 4.

So Pot Luck Doubles Champions 2017 are Chris Jones and Martin Lainsbury
