Veterans British and National League Update

Veterans British and National League

September 19th and 20th saw Draycott Teams appearing in the first weekend of the Veterans British and National Leagues.

The British League this year had its first weekend at the fantastic Derby Arena.

Both Teams this year were sporting top notch new kit having been sponsored by XLNT Sports.

The first team were competing at the highest level in the leagues premier division.

They were represented by Adrian Pilgrim, Stephen Horsefield, Daren Griffin and the clubs own Mark Green.

The team had a fantastic weekend finshing on level points with the leaders in second place on game difference only. Mark played all 3 matches on the Saturday and finished with a fantastic unbeaten record.

The second team newly promoted to Division 2 B were represented by Jeff Rigby, Dave Roberts, and Draycotts  Dave Greaves and Andy Portlock.

They too had a good weekend and sit mid-table one win away from possible promotion. This being especially pleasing as team captain Dave Greaves was only able to play one coming before coming down with food poisoning.

This was the first time the New Derby Arena had been used as a venue for table tennis and what a splendid venue it was. Initially many of the players were a little uncertain of seeing the cyclists flying around  above their heads, but once games started they were not a problem. The facilities were as good as anyone could want with easy access and plenty of parking.

The Veterans National League was held at a separate venue in Cambridge.

Draycott third team having being relegated from the British League last season made it clear that they intend to jump straight back finishing the weekend in second place.

They were represented by Alan Cherry, Nigel Adams and Draycotts own Paul Jennings.

In particular a win against local rivals Sycamore was a great result, and with other players also available for the second weekend they have a great chance of jumping straight back to the higher league.
