Mortimer v Aces
Aces are struggling a little this year but are determined to fight for every point and put up a tremendous show away at  Mortimer who are safely placed mid table. Mortimer fielding regulars, Dave Cutler Dave Bannon and Ian Moore were playing Ian and Davey MacAllister and Duncan Fraser from the Aces. The first game was a terrific   match with Davey McAllister taking the first end but Dave Cutler, Mortimers Number 1 fought back to take the  next three. Ian McAllister won his game against Ian Moore fairly easily and Duncan Farser continued the Aces revival with a three end win against Dave Bannon. The next match was a titanic struggle between Ian Moore and Davey McAllister with two ends going past deuce and all 5 ends being played but Davey’s powerful play took the last end to give Aces the game 3-2. Aces were now 3-1 up and looking good but the good fortune changed with the doubles with Dave and Dave from Mortimer beating Ian and Duncan over 4 ends. Four of the final 5 games all went Mortimers way with only Duncan Fraser taking ends off Dave Cutler and beating Ian Moore over 5 ends to give Sacriston point with Aces going down 6-4
West B v Chargers Feb 3rd
What a cracking game this was with the ever improving Chargers proving an equal match for the leagues 2nd placed team. Anna Kiwitt from Chargers put up a stirling show against Alan Whitwham but Alan was too much, winning in three ends. The next game between Vic Austin from West and Jeff McKenna was a 5 end classic with Vic never behind until the final end losing it 12-10 to go down 3-2. The third game was equally as tense with West’s Michael Redfearn seemingly cruising at 2 games up but Peter Whitfield sucked him into his own style of play and took the next three sets to win 3-2. Anna made Vic work hard taking one end to 14-12 but couldn’t stop him winning 3-0. West brought on Tom Turner to partner Alan against Anna and Jeff in the doubles, but the tactical play of the Chargers team was exceptional and by keeping the ball on the table they took the doubles 3-1. Alan Whitwham wasn’t sucked into Peters blocking style and used his trademark backhand drives to beat him in three ends, making the match 3-3. Michael Redfearn for West played a blinder in the next game and took three ends in a row to beat Jeff 3-1. Peter restored parity with a 3-0 win against Vic and then Michael beat Anna to give West a 5-4 lead going into the final game of Jeff against the reliable Alan Whitwham. However Alan struggled to match Jeff’s overall consistent play and Jeff won 3-1 bringing the game to an even conclusion 5-5
