Bombers v Comets

It was possible that Comets would do Bombers a favour and roll over to help their clubs prospects of winning the league but this was far from the case as every point in every games was fought to the end. Colin Pritchard, Mark Walton and Nikki Irwin played really well against Ian McPherson, Dan Hutchinson and Nigel Coe and with the rub of the green the result could have been so much different, however Ian won his three and helped Dan win the doubles to take player of the match and with Nigel and Dan taking 2 each they came out with 8 points to keep their championship hopes alive.

Academy v Nomads

An exhilarating game between 2 teams fielding 4 players who have never played a competitive game before. Academy had the very young Erin Greensmith with Luke Robinson and debutant Jack Brown against a Nomads team who were all debuting consisting of Jack Preston, and the two brothers Chris and Billy Jennings. Luke from the academy took player of the match winning all his three singles using his aggressive attacking style to good effect, and he was backed by Erin wining 2 and Jack on his debut winning one. For Nomads Jack Preston won two and Billy won one and they combined to take a really exciting game of doubles against Erin and Luke. Chris had 3 terrific games taking an end off Erin and 2 off Jack Brown but unfortunately couldn’t convert his measured play into a win. Final score 6-4 to Academy.

Sonics v Blues

Yet another local derby for the Sonics who travelled to  Brandon to play the Blues who are setting the pace in the league with some excellent results. The Sonics had regulars Jack Pugh and Charlie Coates with for his first game in the Durham league Oliver King. Blues had Henry Davies, Caroline Lee and Chris Leishman. The Sonics who are also enjoying a good season came away with a good result with Jack and Oliver winning 2 each and Charlie winning one. Henry Davies was player of the match winning 3 and with the doubles going to Brandon and Chrsi winning 1 the result was a worthy draw 5-5

Desperadoes v Chargers.

Just like the interclub derby earlier in the week no quarter was given in this game as the 2 mid table teams, Chargers with Anna Kiwitt, John Reid and Paul Salkeld took on the Desperadoes with the excellent Max Duffin, the good defensive player Oliver Turnbull and the exciting young talent Luke Dumighan. Max again showed his prowess by taking player of the match winning all his matches. Oliver had a tight match against Paul but his one victory came against John Reid and Luke was unlucky yet again, displaying his explosive power and getting closer and closer to his first win.

Anna in her final game before returning home played her usual solid game and won 2, Paul Salkeld in only his second game won 2 and John Reid won 1 and with Paul and Anna taking the doubles the game went 6-4 to Chargers.

By the way Anna gets an honourable mention in the News page on the Northumbria website

Aces v NECA A

Waldemar Dzwonkowski continued his destruction of the best players Division 2 has to offer by taking his 3 singles and the doubles with Ian McAllister, and taking player of the match for the seventh game in a row for Aces.. He was backed up by 2 games for Ian and 1 by Duncan Fraser to give a 7-3 win and maintain Aces position at the top of the league.
