Brandon Bees V Desperadoes

A game between two local rivals produced an even matched game, with Jamie Lupton proving to be player of the match taking all his games for Brandon. Desperadoes without regular John Reid added Nigel Duffin to the team of Kevin Richardson and Sam Duffin while Jamie partnered his brother Paul and Caroline Lee. Sam and Caroline ended up with 2 each and Nigel and Kevin also got on the score sheet and with Sam and Kevin beating Paul and Caroline in the doubles the spoils were shared at 5-5.

Comets v Eagles
Eagles were without two regulars, Jack Pugh and Luke Dumighan so drafted in Peter Whitfield and Paul Salkeld to join Haydn Williamson, Comets had regulars Nikki Irwin, Debbie Irwin and Matt Greenwood who kept up the Comets winning streak by winning 8-2. Eagles took a number of games to 5 ends but in most cases lost out. Nikki Irwin took player of the match by taking all her singles with her impressive backhand drives and helped by Debbie took the doubles.

Aces v St Chads (Aces v Birtley)

St Chads are one of the strongest teams in the Sunderland league and must have been looking forward to the trip to Aces but were surprised to find that Waldemar Dzwonkwoski has returned to play for Sacriston and was in his usual imperious form as he won all his singles and with Ian McAllister won the doubles. With Ian McAllister taking a match, the Aces team which also included Jon Mawson drew 5-5 against the St Chads team of Jimmy Scope Paul Baines and Dave Bissett, a very good result for Aces. On the same evening Aces were down to play in the Northumbria league and turned out Ian McPherson, Dan Hutchinson and Max Duffin against Birtley which they won 9-1 to keep them at the top of Division 2.

Bishop Auckland 2 Star

At the Bishop Auckland 2 star the clubs own Max Duffin entered both the Cadets and Junior section and did the club proud with some excellent performances. Only being beaten in the group stages by the seed in each group, Max progressed to the knockout phases.
In the Cadets section he was drawn to play the 2nd seed Tom McKintosh and took the first end, but the more experienced Tom came through to take the next three ends and eventually ended up runners up. In the Juniors section Max was up against number 1 seed and runaway favourite for the title Sam Kwan who proved too strong with his attacking forehand and backhand and took the game in 3. Max can hold his head high after only competing at this level for a year to have done this well against some very strong competition - well done.
