Backspin B V Comets

This was a tussle for the wooden spoon and the two teams contested close games all the way through giving a close result at the end. Debbie Irwin for Backspin proved unbeatable in the singles playing three very tactical games taking the MVP. Nigel Coe and Peter Whitfield for Comets played solid defensive games to take two games each. Adam Butler also took a game for Backspin and with Colin Pritchard taking a game for Comets against Lyndsey Beacham, the deciding match proved to be the doubles. Nigel and Colin were 2-0 down but came back strongly to take the next three ends leaving a 6-4 result to Comets giving them a 2 point cushion but with no games left the decisive game is the Backspin game against Byker  where if they get 3 points will avoid the bottom position.

Aces v Old England

With 2 regulars missing, Aces called upon Nigel Coe and Peter Whitfield from the Comets to join Jon Mawson against Old England. Their endeavour however couldn’t match the skills of the visiting team who fielded Barry Hill, Jake Helm and Alan Atkinson.  Jon Mawson put up a good show and took 2 matches to 4 ends and with Nigel took the doubles to 5 ends before going down. Nigel also had a 4 ender against Barry but the game ended 10-0 to Old England maintaining their push for the title .
