Lanchester Auxiliaries v Durham Magic

Auxiliaries v Magic

A battle royal at Lanchester between 1st and 3rd in the 3rd division.

Lanchester who have won all their games in the league so far this season, were at home to the Durham team who were missing one of their key players but who brought along Ting Yun Cheng “Sunny” who matched her nickname and entertained the spectators with some terrific attacking play which unfortunately wasn’t enough to get any points under her belt. The first game was a tasty 5 ender between Billy Lee and previously unbeaten Peter Whitfield, who was put firmly in his place with Billy winning the decider. The second game between Sam Li from Lanchester and Luke from Durham was another well contested game but Luke’s experience came through to level the game. Reuben took the third for Lanchester and Peter the fourth leaving it 2-2 for the doubles which Lanchester won convincingly, After Billy beat Sunny the score was 4-2 to Lanchester but Luke had a fabulous game against Reuben to bring it back to 4-3. Sunny lost to Sam meaning Lanchester could not be beaten at 5-3, but Peter using his short pushing game managed to hit enough nets and edges to “edge” out Reuben, which left the last game between Luke and Billy to decide whether Lanchester’s victorious record would go and also who would get MVP. It was tight and tense but Luke played brilliantly, kept his cool and managed victory in 4 ends giving Magic a deserved share of the spoils at 5-5. It was a well contested game played with excellent sporting behaviour by both sides, we look forward to the return match.
