Handicap Cup True Roof Direct v Magic

True Roof v Magic Handicap Cup

After seeing a number of 1st Division matches from afar over the years and aware of the intense passions that can be generated when games are close and the result is critical, Magic were apprehensive on their visit to one of the front runners in the 1st division, True Roof, for their handicap cup game. Luke, Ross and Peter duly turned up and were playing Maurice Cheek, James Bradbury and Lynn Herrington who gave them a generous welcome but would this last, if results weren’t appropriate.

The first game between James and Peter was extremely intense and every game was really close, unfortunately Peter couldn’t send James to sleep and ended up on the losing side., So far so good for True Roof, but Luke took Maurice to 3 ends and literally smashed through Maurice’s defence to win.

Lynn v Ross had the longest first game of any going to 26- 24 to Lynn, but Ross started to attack more and came through the next two to win 2-1

Peter sent Maurice to sleep eventually 2-1, and with Ross beating James in 2, it left True Roof looking at a 4-1 deficit, But Lynn came charging to the rescue with a humdinger of a game between two of the best attacking players in the Sunderland league, and Lynn using her experience against a naive Luke came through 2-0. However, Ross was in no mood to give in and used his handicap to his advantage, Maurice couldn’t cope with his steady defensive play and his timely attacking prowess to give Magic the game with 5 won and Ross the MVP award.

Although the match was over True Roof were generous in their praise to Magic and even offered to play the rest of the games, which highlighted the gamesmanship between the two with a number of edges being confessed to, and all nets and lucky shots being acknowledged. On behalf of Magic this was one of the friendliest game Magic have played and we would like to thank True Roof for their welcome and all of their positive comments, This, is what sport is about!
