Tournament Regulations

League rules:

15(a) All registered persons who reside permanently within the Borough of Eastbourne shall be eligible to compete in the Closed Championships.

15(b) Any other persons, to be eligible, should normally be registered players in the league and have played a minimum of four matches in the current season by the closing date. The League Council shall have discretion where this qualification has not been reached. [due to the staging date of the event being different from that foreseen in the League rules, the restriction in 15(b) to the current season is considered inappropriate and will be waived]

5(f) The League Council may delegate any of its duties or powers to sub-committees … [it has done so here to the Closed Championships’ Organising Committee]

Supplementary rules:

1. All decisions by the Organising Committee are final and not subject to appeal.

2. Every entrant must be an affiliated member of the Eastbourne & District Table Tennis League.

3. All entrants undertake to conform to the rules of the Eastbourne & District Table Tennis League and Table Tennis England.

4. White or light coloured clothing, which makes visibility of the ball difficult, is prohibited.

5. Entrants are expected to umpire and must do so when requested by the organisers. Failure to do so may lead to disqualification from this and future events.

6.  The individual match umpire’s decision on any points of fact will be final. The Organising Committee takes the role of Tournament Referee and any decision on any points of law will be final.

7. Competitors may only enter a maximum of four events overall and a maximum of two of the main age-category singles (o40, o50, o60, o70). Events may be cancelled if the Organising Committee considers there are insufficient entries [the typical minimum entry per event shall be six].

8. It is intended that each singles event will have a group stage and no consolation event. The exact format and entry qualification will be determined by the Organising Committee.

9. Where entrants put ‘partner wanted’ for the over 40s doubles’ event the Organising Committee will select partners, where possible, by ballot.

10. For the ‘drawn doubles’ event the Organising Committee will divide the entries into two strata and then draw each pairing so it consists of one from each strata.

11. The Organising Committee may, at its discretion, create a ‘reserve list’ with the following priority: (i) ‘partner wanted’ entries who missed out, (ii) those who missed the closing date. Any reserve replacements who would have been seeded for an event if included in the original draw cannot take the place of any entrants who would have been seeded with a higher number than them (e.g. number 8 seed cannot be replaced by someone who would have been seeded 5).

12. Entrants will contact the organisers if they have to withdraw from the Championships.

13. Age limits: veterans (over 40s) born before 1979, over 50s before 1969, over 60s before 1959, over 70s before 1949.
