16th DECEMBER MATCH REPORT

As is usual in the last round of games before Christmas matches were disrupted by player unavailability. In Division One Bristol Nomads strengthened their hold on top place with a 21 - 9 win over Cwmbran Aztecs. However, this match was disrupted with the Aztecs only able to field 2 players and the Nomads having to borrow 2 players from other sides. Despite this the match contained the game of the night between Chris Price (Nomads) and Tony Collins (Aztecs) which Price won after coming back from 2 sets down.

The other match in Div. One saw a close encounter between YMCA and Cwmbran Colts and despite a player of the match performance from Lee Thomas(Colts) YMCA managed to grab a 16 - 16 draw. Ray Goulding and Claire Flannagan managed 2 wins each to help YMCA in their cause.

The only match in Division Two that involved their usual players was between Cwmbran Eccentrics and Blaenavon Bulldogs and it heralded the first win of the season for the Bulldogs. The Eccentrics Peter Alderson tried hard to lead his side to victory with his 3 wins but it was the overall consistency of the Bulldogs that prevailed to win 17 - 16. The Bulldogs were helped by 2 wins for Bethany Brewer and a first win of the season for Callum Hunt.

The leaders of Div. Two, Cwmbran Panthers, suffered their second defeat of the season to Blaenavon Aces 15 - 23. The Panther were missing 2 players including their number one Mike Blatchford, however, one of the replacements, Lincoln Alford did win all his matches. It was a good all round performance from the Aces with all their players winning 2 matches each including Bethany Brewer who had a busy night playing for 2 different sides.

The other match in Div. Two saw last years winners Cwmbran Dynamos take on Cwmbran Fellows. The highlight of this match was the clash between the 2 leading players in the division, Wayne Ford (Fellows) and Alex Jones (Dynamos) which Ford managed to come out on top 3 - 1. Despite his 3 wins Ford could not prevent a win for the Dynamos 20 - 12 which with a game in hand still keeps them in the hunt for the title.
