2nd DECEMBER MATCH REPORT

A difficult week for the Eastern Valley Table Tennis League with injuries, illnesses and player unavailability causing 2 matches to be postponed and other fixtures only being fulfilled with substitute players from other teams. Division One saw 1 match being played between Cwmbran Aztecs and YMCA. Borrowing 2 players from the table topping Bristol Nomads YMCA were always going to be favourites to win, which they did 23 - 14. However, the match itself was very competitive as only 1 match was won in straight sets with the stand out result being Mark Edmunds (Aztecs) win over Chris Price (YMCA) 3-2. The Aztecs were also indebted to Roger Grech with 2 wins to keep them in the match. Despite these heroics it was a player of the match performance from David Lloyd (YMCA) with 3 wins that ensured a successful outcome for his adopted team.

In Division. Two there were only 2 matches played due to a postponement. Cwmbran Panthers moved back to the top of the table with a comfortable 26 - 6 win over Cwmbran Fellows. However, player of the match Mile Blatchford (Panthers) must have been disappointed not to have been able to have the opportunity of testing himself against the Fellows 'star' player Wayne Ford, who was unfortunately missing with illness. Quote from Mike "any excuse to avoid playing me". The stand out result in this match was Alan Miskelly's (Fellows) 3-2 win over Yuri Cherkasenko (Panthers). This was after being 2 sets down giving him his first win of the season.

The other match played in Div. Two was Cwmbran Dynamos against Cwmbran Eccentrics with the Dynamos winning 20 - 12. Another player of the match performance from Alex Jones led his team to a win which keeps the pressure up on the leaders. For the Eccentrics there was a good performance from Peter Alderson with 2 wins including a close win over young Louis Price.
