1st December 2015 Match Reports

The current leaders of Division One of the Eastern Valley Table Tennis League, YMCA Preachers, played Cwmbran Aztecs this week. The Aztecs were still without their number 1 player Tony Collins and again could not overcome his absence and went down 24-10. For the Preachers there were 3 wins each for Ray Goulding (player of the match) and Claire Flannagan and 2 wins for Dave Lloyd. For the Aztecs Mark Edmunds battled hard for 6 of his teams points.

Bristol Nomads have a game in hand on the leaders, but, fell further behind with their first defeat of the season to Cwmbran Blues 20-15. The Blues were without David D Lloyd, however, his replacement Roger Grech produced a player of the match performance with 3 wins to seal the win. Grech was ably backed up by Mark Farrow with his 3 wins.

The match between Cwmbran Colts and Blaenavon Aces was postponed.

In Division Two there was a slight hiccup in Cwmbran Panthers march to the title when they lost their 100% record in a 16-16 draw against Cwmbran Devils.  The Panthers were without their number 1 player Mike Blatchford, but were able to call up the equally excellent John Thomas who picked up the player of the match with his 3 wins. For the Devils Stan Williams kept his side in the match with his 2 wins.

The chasing team Cwmbran Dynamos had a surprisingly close match against the bottom team Cwmbran Eccentrics before eventually winning 21-15. The usual player of the match performance from Alex Jones for the Dynamos ensured his team maintained the challenge. Jones was backed up by Will Smith-Haddon with his 2 wins. The Eccentrics team has had a re-shuffle and one of their new players Richard Lownsbrough picked up 2 wins and was ably supported by that veteran of Eastern Valley table tennis Alan Howse with 6 of his teams points.

The final match in Div. Two saw Cwmbran Fellows beat Blaenavon Bulldogs 17-12. For the Fellows Wayne Ford picked up 3 wins. For the Bulldogs Lincoln Alford and Callum Hunt won 2 matches each.
