29th November 2016 Match Reports

Following the latest round of matches in the Eastern Valley Table Tennis League YMCA Preachers still remain top of Division One despite losing their 5th match of the season to Bristol Nomads 15 - 22. Only the bottom club have lost more matches this season. The Nomads were indebted to a player of the match performance from Bhargav Uday Chandra who only dropped one set in his three wins. He was well supported by Alex Banks with his two wins. For the Preachers David Lloyd picked up two wins.

Cwmbran Blues continued to narrow the gap on the leaders with a 21 - 9 win over Cwmbran Aztecs. The Blues have only lost one match this season and that was when they played a match with a player short. The Blues team provided the player of the match in David D Lloyd with his three wins and was supported by Roger Grech and Mark Farrow with two wins each. The highlight for the Aztecs was the good win for Mark Edmunds over the higher ranked Farrow in straight sets.

The final match in Division One saw Cwmbran Colts gain a big win over Blaenavon Aces 26 - 9. The player of the match award went to the revitalised John Thomas of the Colts team with his three wins.  Included among his scalps was a very good win over the higher ranked Ian Maggs who was guesting for the Aces. The Colts Mathew Pearce also had maximum wins and Nigel Gore had two wins. For the Aces Maggs picked up five of his teams points.

In Division Two, Cwmbran Panthers opened up a narrow lead on their rivals with a 24 - 9 win over Cwmbran Eccentrics. The Panthers were without their leading player Mike Blatchford but were fortunate to be able to call upon the services of Wayne Ford as replacement. Ford was immediately involved in the most exciting match of the night against Lincoln Alford when he had to come back from 2 sets down and 1-5 down in the 5th set to win. However, it was the Panthers Yuri Cherkasenko who stole the player of the match award with three straight set wins. For the Eccentrics there was a very good win for Matthew Powell over the higher ranked Howard Gaut.

Cwmbran Dynamos are only three points behind the leaders after their 21 - 10 win against Cwmbran Devils. Once again the Dynamos Alex Jones was player of the match with his maximum wins and he was well supported by Richard Lownsbrough with his two wins. For the Devils Stan Williams picked up two wins including a good win over the higher ranked Lownsbrough. There was also a good win for the Devils' Glenda Prytherch over her higher ranked opponent Will Smith-Haddon.

In the final match in Division Two, Cwmbran Fellows enjoyed a 22 - 11 win over North Gwent Cougars. For the Fellows, Chris Thomas edged out his team mate Haydn Skinner for the player of the match award with both players picking up three wins. Skinner's performance included good wins over the higher ranked Iestyn Howells and Cerys Evans. For the Cougars, Evans fought hard for her 6 points including a win over the higher ranked Marta Morris.
