16th February 2016 Match Reports

The Eastern Valley Table Tennis League titles were decided after this weeks matches. In Division One last seasons winners Bristol Nomads, retained their title, with still a previously postponed match to play, by beating Cwmbran Aztecs 24-14. The Nomads needed to borrow Piotr Snezek for this match and he won the player of the match award with his 3 wins. He was closely followed by Mike Bishop with his 3 wins. The Nomads had a large squad of players, but the majority of matches were played by Bishop, Chris Price, Louis Price, Ian Maggs and Keith Armstrong, so it is congratulations to them on retaining their title.

The runners up in Division One were YMCA Preachers who beat Cwmbran Colts 19-14 to clinch 2nd place by 2 points. The Preachers' David Lloyd was the player of the match with his 3 wins and supported by Claire Flannagan with 2 wins. For the Colts John Thomas had 2 good wins over higher ranked opponents Flannagan and Eric Turner.

The team that just lost out on 2nd place was Cwmbran Blues, despite their 17-13 win over Blaenavon Aces. For his second match of the night the Aces Piotr Snezek was the player of the match with his 3 straight set wins. For the Blues Mark Farrow and David D Lloyd registered 2 wins each.

The Division Two honours had already been settled last week, but the champions Cwmbran Panthers confirmed their dominance with a 24-4 win over Cwmbran Eccentrics. The Panthers' Howard Gaut picked up his first player of the match award with 3 straight set wins, closely followed by team mate Mike Blatchford with is 3 wins and supported by Yuri Cherkasenko with 2 wins. Congratulations once again to the Panthers on retaining their title. For the Eccentrics Richard Lownsbrough picked up a good win over the higher ranked Cherkasenko.

The clear runners up in the division were Cwmbran Dynamos who won a closely fought match against Blaenavon Bulldogs by 20-16. Once again the player of the match was the Dynamos Alex Jones with his 3 straight set wins. Jones was well supported by Sunam Rai who picked up 8 of her sides points total. For the Bulldogs Lincoln Alford won 2 matches.

In the final match in Division Two Cwmbran Devils cemented their 3rd place by defeating Cwmbran Fellows 20-11. The player of the match award went to the Devils' Stan Williams who included in his 3 wins an excellent  win over Wayne Ford. Williams was well supported by Colin Scott with his 2 wins. For the Fellows there was also a very good win for Haydn Skinner over the higher ranked Glenda Prytherch.
