6th February 2018 Match Reports

 This weeks matches in Division One of the Eastern Valley League saw Cwmbran Colts virtually clinch the title with a 27-3 win over Bristol Nomads. Unfortunately, the Nomads were only able to field two players and the Colts took full advantage. The Colts' Lyndon Jones took the player of the match award with two wins and was well supported by Lee Thomas and Ben Pearce who also had two wins.

For the second week running Cwmbran Aztecs were without their number one player Tony Collins but again still managed to overcome his absence with a 19-12 win over Blaenavon Aces. Despite being on the losing side Ben Allen was the player of the match with three wins including success against higher ranked players. For the Aztecs, Andrew Ryder, Mark Edmund and John Thomas all registered two wins.

The final match in Division One Cwmbran Blues and YMCA Preachers fought out a 17-17 draw.  The Preachers' David Lloyd was the player of the match with three wins. For the Blues Roger Grech and David D Lloyd registered two wins each.

In Division Two Cwmbran Dynamos continue to lead the division although they were pushed all the way in their latest match by Cwmbran Fellows before winning 18-17. The player of the match was the Fellows' Wayne Ford with three wins including a very competitive five set win over the resilient Alex Jones. There was also a good win for the Fellows Mick Mellor over the higher ranked Will Smith-Haddon. For the Dynamos Jones and Richard Lownsbrough picked up two wins each.

Second placed Cwmbran Panthers gained some points on the leaders with their 23-9 win over Chepstow Chiefs. It was good to see the return of the Panthers' Mike Blatchford who won the player of the match award with his 3 wins. He was well supported by Howard Gaut and Yuri Cherkasenko with their two wins each. For the Chiefs Connor Pyke battled hard for his one win and five points. There was also a very good win for the Chiefs' Finley McNeil over the higher ranked Gaut.

The final match saw Cwmbran Devils defeat North Gwent Cougars 17-16 in a very close match. Despite the absence of their number one player Greg Price, the Cougars still proved very competitive. However they could not get close to the Devils' player of the match Roshan Rai. The Devils' Glenda Prytherch fought hard for her one win and five points. For the Cougars Sam Slatter and Jonathan Deacon played well for their two wins each.
