13th November 2018 Match Reports

Cwmbran Aztecs continued their unbeaten start to the season and take over top spot of Division One of the Eastern Valley Table Tennis League following their latest 20-19 win over Blaenavon Aces. Once again the Aztecs' Tony Collins picked up the player of the match award with his three faultless wins to lead the divisions' individual averages. The Aces had Jon Allen making his first appearance of the season and he picked up two good wins as did his son Ben.

With Cwmbran Blues and Cardiff Nomads having byes this week, it was an opportunity for Cwmbran Tigers and YMCA Preachers to move into third place in the division. It was the Tigers who have narrowly taken over third place despite their 15-18 loss to the Preachers. Player of the match was the Preachers' David Lloyd with his three wins and he was well supported by Claire Flannagan with her two wins. For the Tigers Michal Luckanic collected two wins.

In Division Two,  North Gwent Cougars have moved to the top following their latest 26-8 win over Cwmbran Lions. Player of the match was the Cougars' Goran Karabar with his three wins and he was well supported by Sam Slatter, who also had three wins and Michel Policht with two wins.  The Cougars remain the only unbeaten team in the division. For the Lions, Michael Blatchford was the sole winner for his team.

Cwmbran Eccentrics, despite their 19-13 win over Cwmbran Devils, drop to second place in the division. For the Eccentrics there were two wins for John Thomas. The Devils were hampered by the withdrawal, through injury, of Colin Scott after one match. However, their guest player Wayne Ford managed to secure the player of the match with his three wins, including a win over the previously unbeaten Thomas, thus gaining revenge for his loss to Thomas a week earlier.

The final match in the division saw Cwmbran Dynamos inflict a surprisingly heavy defeat on Cwmbran Panthers 27-2. There were maximum wins for all the Dynamos players with Richard Lownsbrough marginally picking up the player of the match award ahead of his teammates Alex Jones and Will Smith-Haddon. For the Panthers Sunam Rai was the only player to offer any resistance by securing all her teams points.
